Description

L. BRAUN'. Toy-Pistol.
No. 205,039 Patnted June 18, i878.
\NI NEEEEE iZiW/A UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS BRAUN, OF WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY PISTOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,039, dated June 18, 1878; application filed March 19, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS BRAUN, of the city of Wheeling, in the county of Ohio and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Pistols; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of my invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of refer ence marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view; Fig. 2, a top View; Fig. 3, an end View.
The letter A designates a pistol-shaped 1 body, preferably made of Wood. B is an explosive-holder, made of thin sheet metal, with a portion of one end, I), folded back and then bent at right angles, to form a spring-stop device to hold the explosive and resist the blow of the hammer, and is permanently fastened at the other end to the barrel, as shown at a. O is a coil-spring hammer, having one arm, 0, permanently secured to the stock of the pistol, and the other arm, at, extending down the side of the barrel, underneath the same, and turned up on the other side sufficiently to prevent lateral displacement and guide the spring in its longitudinal movements. 1
The mode of operation is as follows: A suitable explosive-such, for instance, as a fulminate mounted on paper, commonly called paper caps--is placed back of the spring-piece b, which holds it securely until exploded. The spring-arm d is drawn back with the finger and permitted to strike the explosive holder B, which explodes the cap, after which the device is ready for another charge.
The explosive-holding end b can be made separate from the other portion of the stop device, and be secured to the barrel by extending a point through the barrel and clinching it; but this I do not deem as good construction as the mode herein shown.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the pistol-shaped body A, explosive-holder B, and coil spring 0, substantially as herein shown, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereby affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
LOUIS BRA'UN.
Witnesses:
EDGAR. F. HAY, ARCHIE P. PAXTON.
