1 Claim.
The present invention relates to a carrier defor carrying a case of eggs and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which will be efficient in engaging the case so that the same will not be crushed in any way and so as to utilize the cleats provided on the ends of the case.
Another important object of the invention resides in .the provision of a device of this nature which may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost, is strong and durable, easy to manipulate, handy and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device engaged with a case. Y
Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the device showing the same in folded position.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that there are two jaws having certain features in common which will now be described. Referring to one of the jaws it will be seen that it is of a general U-shaped formation formed from a single strand of bar material providing spaced substantially parallel co-extensive legs 5 merging Vinto spaced parallel co-extensive substantially right angularly disposed extensions 6 which, in turn, merge into spaced parallel right angularly disposed extensions 'I which are disposed also substantially in parallelism with the legs 5 adjacent the extension 6 and merge into a straight cross portion 8. The parts 6, 1 and 8 form a sort of gooseneck and will engage cleats 9 of an egg case I0. It will be noted that the cross portions 8 are of a sufficient length to fit under practically the entire length of the cleats.
In one of the jaws the other ends of the legs 5 terminate in eyes II. One leg 5 of the other jaw terminates in an eye I2 while the other leg terof the limb and the minates in a cross member I4 extending through eyes II and I2 and also through the bore of a hollow handle I5. It is to be noted that portions 5 of the legs 5 are curved so as to incline upwardly and inwardly toward the handle when 5 considered from side elevation with the device on an egg case as shown to advantage in Figure 3 whereby a convenient grip may be obtained on the handle for carrying the case fromY place to place. 10
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
It is apparent that the changes in the details 15 of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
. Having thus described my invention what I claim as new isz- A carrier of the class described, comprising a pair of jaws each of substantially U-shape to provide a pair of limbs and a bight, each limb being bent inwardly a relatively short distance from the bight, at substantially right angles, to 25 provide a straight part opposite to the main part end of each straight part being bent upwardly at substantially right angles, to provide ak shorter straight part, the last mentioned straight parts being connected together by 30 the bight, whereby the first mentioned straight parts of the two jaws may be placed in engagement with the ends of an object with the shorter straight parts and the bight passing under said object, the free ends of the limbs of one jaw member being formed into eyes and the free end of one limb of the other jaw member being formed into an eye and the other end of said jaw member being formed with an extension, bent at substantially right angles, and a tubular elongated handle member through which the extension passes, said extension also passing through the three eyes, the portions of the limbs of the two jaw members adjacent the handle member being disposed at right angles thereto. 45
