Description
` E, w. LolsELLE INDICATOR FOR MILITARY WHIS'I July 28, 1936.
FiIed May 25, 1934 l Sl :Guam/uff Patented July 28, 1936 UNITED i STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to indicators for military whist.
In military whist wherein a large number of players are engaged, four being seated at a table 5 and where there are quite a number of tables, it frequently happens that two or more tables are desirous of dropping out of the game after the same has been in progress for a considerable length of time. Also, it is often desirous to add new tables to the game after the same has started and has been in progress for from one to two hours.
Heretofore considerable difficulty and confusion has been experienced in the addition or subtraction of new players to the game of military progressive whist after the same has been played for a considerable length of time and a number of hands have been played. Also, it has heretofore been the common practice to start the game all over when it is desired to add or subtract players to or from the game.
The above diflieulties and confusion are overcome by providing a card having suitable indicia thereon to enable each player to determine the table to which he or she may move after an addition or subtraction in the number of players, whereby after such addition or subtraction of players the players already engaged in the game may move progressively to the next table by merely moving a slide carrying indicia and associated with the card without causing confusion or otherwise detaining the players engaged in the game.
Certain objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description taken with the drawing, wherein,
Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention illustrating a single sheet of paper or cardboard having a slide rule thereon for making the predetermined calculations;
Figure 2 is an end elevational view showing the transparent cover overlying the slide and card;
Figure 3 is a rear fragmentary elevational view vof the indicator showing the continuous slide device engaged with the card or sheet bearing the indicating data; and
lFigure 4 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view taken on line 4 4 of Figure 1.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, the reference character III designates an indicia bearing card having at the top thereof as at II, a series of numerals extending transversely of the card from Ill to 24 and which are intended 55 to designate the number of tables being played and directly under the numerals II is a series of numerals I2 arranged in parallel lines extending longitudinally of the card and numerically directly under each of the key numerals II. A series of numerals I2 starts at the top with the 5 numeral 2 and continues in succession until the key numeral is reached whereupon the numerals start in succession with the numeral 2 and again continues numerically until the key numeral is reached.
Slidably mounted upon the card I is a cardboard slide I3 having a longitudinal slotted opening I4 and reference characters I5 adapted to register with the reference characters I2 on the card Ill. The slide I3 is held in place by a rear 15 connecting piece I6 which may be operated by the hand of the player to move the numerals I which range from l to into alinement with the longitudinal series of numerals I2 which will be headed by the key numeral II as is shown in 20 Figure 1. The transparent cover I1 overlies the slide I3 and card I0 and is secured thereto as at I8, the slide being frictionally engaged with the card and transparent cover. The indicia on the slide and card are clearly viewable through the 25 transparent cover and the latter acts to prevent accidental movement of the slide relative to the card should an object be moved transversely of the cover and in contact therewith. When eighteen tables are employed the slide I3 will assume the 30 position shown in Figure 1 and the numeral I5 will align with the vertical series of numerals I2 which will indicate to the player that he shall move from table number I to table number 2 until he has played seventeen tables Where his last move will be to table number eighteen and from this table he shall start from table eighteen and move back to table 2. Likewise, his next move will be from table 2 to table 3.
I claim:-
1. A card game indicator comprising a card having instruction data thereon in transverse and longitudinal formation, a slide mounted on the card for movements transversely thereof, a transparent cover overlying the slide and card with the slide frictionally engaged with the transparent cover and card, and said transparent cover shielding the slide whereby accidental movement of the slide is prevented should an object be moved transversely of the transparent cover and in contact therewith, said slide being longitudinally slotted for selectively exposing the transverse and longitudinal data on the card and having indicia thereon cooperating with the data on the card.
2. A card game indicator comprising a card 55 22 jf, Y 2,049,305
having instruction data thereon in transverse and longitudinal formation, a slide mounted on the card for movements transversely thereof, a transparent cover overlying the slide and card with theV slide frietionally `engaged. with the transparent cover and card, and said transparent cover shielding'the slide whereby accidental movement of the slide is prevented should an object be moved transversely of ther transparent cover and in con- 10 tact therewith, said slide being longitudinally slotted for selectively exposing the transverse and longitudinal data on thercard and having indicia thereon cooperating with the data on the card.;
