This invention relates to scoring devices for games.

The main object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and convenient device for 8 keeping score of card games or games of any kind.

Another object is to provide a scoring device including a number of strips or tapes for score indicating numerals or indicia and arranged to be rolled upon manually operated rollers Whereby any numbers on the tapes may be brought into registry with slots or openings and be visible therethrough, there being also manually operated indicators to indicate the number of games or tricks won.

Another object is to provide a scoring device of this kind which includes means for indicating the score when a player or side goes in the said means comprising tapes of numbers in red and the slots or openings having adjustable blind members for blocking off the slots and exhibiting only the red numbers or vice versa.

- With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein:

Referring now more particularly to the drawing my invention comprises a case including a rectangular frame 2 having sides and ends 3 and 4 and the removable cover 5 having flanges 6 slipping over and frictionally engaging the said sides and ends. Adjacent each end of the case 1 46 end bearing blocks 7 are secured to the sides 3 and center bearing posts or blocks 8 are secured to and extended inwardly from the ends 4 at medial points thereof. The bearing blocks 7 and posts 8 have aligned recesses 9 in which are jour- -naled the reduced and extended trunnions 10 of tape rollers 11, the arrangement being such that an axially aligned pair of rollers are provided at each end of the case as shown. Knurled operating wheels 12 are provided and secured at -the outer ends of the rollers 11 and are of considerably greater diameter than these rollers whereby they may project through slots 13 in the cover 5 to permit the operation of the rollers from the outside of the case. The length of the rollers 11 is considerably less than the distance between the bearing blocks 7 and posts 8 whereby space is provided at the inner ends of the rollers for expansion coil springs 14 placed over the inner trunnions 10 and braced between the rollers and the posts 8, these springs acting 65 as friction brakes to hold the rollers in an adjusted position.

Score indicating tapes 15 and 16 of paper or other suitable flexible material are provided and one tape is wound at its ends on the rollers at 701 one side and the other wound on the rollers at the other side as shown so that the tapes may be rolled from the rollers at one end to the rollers at the other end at will by the proper manipular" tion of the knurled wheels 12. The cover 5 has openings 17 and 18 adjacent its sides and one end but inwardly of the rollers 11 at that end and the tapes 15 and 16 are adapted to pass beneath and in registry with these openings to permit a view of the tapes through the openings. Tape 8 guides 19 are provided adjacent each opening 17 and 18 and are of substantially U-shaped form secured to the underside of the cover 5 by their legs 20 and arranged with their bights 21 spaced outwardly from the cover. The tapes 15 and 16 are threaded through these guides 19 intermediate their ends as shown in Figures 3 and 4 and the tapes are thus supported in proper position relative to the openings 17 and 18 at all times.

Indicators designated generally at 22 showing the number of games won are provided on the cover 5 as shown and each comprise a suitable piece of metal bent to provide a base 23 and an outstanding wing or portion 24 joined thereto by a connecting web 25, the said base 23 bearing numerals around its exposed and visible margin 26. A pointer 27 is provided on each indicator 22 and is operated by a knob 28 connected thereto by a shaft 29 rotatably mounted through the wing 24. The utility of these indicators in keeping a record of the number of games or tricks won by each side will be apparent.

The tapes 15 and 16 may bear any desired and rsuitable numbers or indicia according to the game scored and as the points are made the operating wheels 12 are manipulated by the players to bring their scores into view through the openings 17 and 18. In games such as 500 in which r" one side sometimes goes in the hole or is set the tapes 15 and 16 may each have two columns or rows of similar figures but with one column printed in red. The openings 1'7 and 18 extend substantially the Width of the tapes and hence both columns of figures would be readable through the openings. To block off either column of figures as desired I provide blind pieces or blocks of rectangular form and having reduced heads or extensions 31 adapted to project through and slidably play in the openings 17 and 18. These blind pieces 30 are mounted between the tapes 15 and 16 and the cover 5 and are thus held in place in such manner that they may be moved to either end of the openings to expose either column of figures on the tapes. Thus should either side go in the hole the red column of figures would be exposed by proper placement of the blind pieces as will be readily understood. The projecting shoulders 32 formed by the reducing of the heads 31 of course prevent the blind pieces from falling through the openings 17 and 18.

Any desired number of tapes maybe employed and the device as a whole might be readily built in a card table or the like and such variations are considered within the scope of the present invention.

While I have herein set forth a certain preferred embodiment of my invention it is understood that I may vary therefrom in minor structural details so as best to construct a practical device for the purposes intended, not departing from the spirit of the invention and within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a device of the kind described, a case having an elongated opening, past which an indicating tape is adapted to move, U-shaped tape guides extended from end to end of the opening, and a blind block comprising a reduced head slidably mounted through the opening and shoulders engaging the inner margins of the opening and held to place by the tape passing between the blind block and tape guide.

Ina game scoring device embodying a case and an indicating tape, the said case having an elongated opening past which the tape is adapted tomove, a U-shaped tape guide extended across the said opening at right angles t0 the tape, and a blind block comprising a head adapted to slidably enter and play in the said opening and. extended marginal shoulders overlying the inner margins of the opening whereby the block is held to place by the tape passing between the block and guide.
