Description

C. BOECKH. Brush-Bridle.
No. 204,652. Patented June 11, 1878.
NITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
CHARLES BOECKH, OF TORONTO, PROVINCE OF ONTARIO, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BRUSH-BRIDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,652, dated June 11,1878; application filed February 9, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, CHARLES Bonomi, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York and Province of Ontario, brush-maker, have invented a certain new and useful Attachment for Bridling Paint, Whitewash, Varnish, or other Brushes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanyin g drawing.
The object of the invention is to provide a cheap and serviceable attachment more particularly applicable to at and oval brushes; and consists of a stift metallic guard made the exact shape of the brush. It is intended to be applied to and secured to the handle thereof by peculiarly-formed fasteners, so arranged that they can be easily attached and adjusted to suitthe length ofthe bristles forming the brush.
Figure 1 is a side view of a ilat brush with my improved bridle attached. Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof. Figs. 3 and 4 are views of a whitewashing-brush.
The object of bridling brushes is so well known to the trade that it is unnecssary forme to refer to it in this specification. Suii'ice it to say that I am not aware that any bridle has been successfully designed which is applicable to at brushes.
In the accompanying drawings the bristles of the brush are indicated by the letter A, and the handle is marked B. C is a stout wire band, made the exact shape of the bristles A, and snugly fits around them, as shown.
D D are two thin metallic plates, the bases of which are beaded, as shown.
The band C is fitted to the beads, and when adjusted the plates are placed at opposite sides of 'the bristles A.
These plates D D are also secured to the handle B, the screws E, passing through slots in the said plates, being applied for this purpose. These slots allow the bridle to be adiusted on the bristles and as two screws are all that is necessary to secure it to the brush, the said bridles can be sold independently and applied to the brush by the parties purchasing the same.
I am aware of the patent granted July l2, 1870, to G. W. Hupp for a clasp for brushes, and disclaim the invention therein set forth, my improvements being designed to cheapen and facilitate the construction of the bridle by using a wire band, and securing it to the plates by beading the latter, as shown. I also make the bases of the plates at the beads of sufficient width to insure a tight and permanent fastening between the band and plates, and which will at all times preserve the proper relations between the respective parts.
What I claim as my invention is The slotted metallic plates D D, having wide bases, which are beaded, as shown, combined with the wire band C, fitted to the beads, as described.
Signed the 2d day of February, A. D. 1878.
