I INVENTOR.
- 4/1. @MM ATTORNEYS N PETERS PHOTO LITNOGRAPHER WASHIN N D C TJNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE'.
JOSEPH W. BROWN, OF LOCKLAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-DASH FEET.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,530, dated June 4, 1878; application filed April 29, 1678.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osnrn W. BROWN, of Lockland, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Carriage-Dash Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to removable dashframes for carriages; and the novelty consists in the construction of a slotted foot attached at the front to each side of the carriage or buggy body, and having the dash-frame secured to it, whereby said frame may be easily fitted to the feet, and at the same time serving as a brace to the carriage or buggy body, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved dash-foot applied to a piano-box bu ggy-body, and Fig. 2 is,a perspective view of the same detached.
Arepresents the front of a carriage or buggy body, to each side or end of which is secured tlie foot B, of malleable iron, by one or more bolts. The foot B is constructed to fit over the top edge of the front A and the top edge of the side A, as shown, and has an arm, 0, projecting upward and inward, and this arm is provided with a horizontal slot, a. The lower end E of this foot is extended and curved inwardly in the same direction as that of the arm 0, and provided with a perforation, f, to
receive a bolt, g, which connects the same to the bottom of the buggy-body, substantially as shown.
D represents the dash-frame, which is fastened to the feet B by means of a bolt at each end, which bolt passes through the slot a in the arm 0, and a nut screwed upon the end of the bolt which secures the dash-frame in position. By means of the slotted portion 0, which gives sufficient latitude for the passage of the bolt without any trouble, the dash can be easily and quickly secured in place, and the shoulder h, which overhangs or rests upon the side bar of the buggy-body with the extension E, a rigid brace is formed to the dashfoot.
The body of the foot B may be made of any suitable form and size, and, being malleable, can be easily fitted and fastened to the body of the buggy and carriage.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a carriage-body and dash-board, the foot B, the upper end of which is bent inward and upward, and slotted, as described, and its lower portion provided with the extension E, having bolt-hole f, substantially as shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH W. BROWN.
Witnesses:
JOHN F. BLACKMAR, JAMES J. SHEEHY.
