Description

M. COOPER May 26, 1936.
LEGGING Filed May 15, 1955 \NVENTOR Mar/vs Caoper Patented May 26, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 6 Claims.
My present invention relates to a new and useful means of fastening a childs legging or similar garment to the foot of the wearer. It aims to devise an attachment which, while being simple and economical in construction, yet remedies certain important defects in such leggings as have heretofore been used.
Prior to my present invention, it was usual to aiiix the nether portion of a legging by means of a cross strap aiiixed directly to the cloth or other material of the legging, and without the allowance of any means to take care of variations in the size and shape of the wearers foot. As a result of this, the strap would frequently ride up over the heel of the wearer, thus causing him inconvenience and annoyance, and frequently requiring the repair of the legging and the removal of one side of the fastening means to a different position on the garment so as to prevent this occurrence.
In the drawing, Fig. I represents a perspective view of the device of the present invention showing the same as it is actually employed. Fig. II is a detailed showing of the fastening means on one side, and Fig. III is a detailed showing of the fastening means on the other side.
At 4 is shown a legging generally aflixed in position to the shoe 5.
The strap is positioned when in use directly under the arch of the shoe 5.
This strap is affixed to one portion of the legging by a pair of snap fasteners 8 located on each side of the slidable fastener shown at 9.
On the other side of the legging, opposite the slidable fastener 9, a loop of leather or similar material I2 is sewed to the legging 4. Through this loop is passed a metallic loop or guide l3, one portion of which is positioned within the loop I 2 and the other portion of which is free. On the free portion of the metallic loop l3 there rides a trolley 14 to which is attached one portion of a snap fastener l5. To this snap fastener l5, the other side of the strap 6 is snapped by means of the cooperating portion of the snap fastener 16.
As can be seen from the drawing, when the legging is put on by the wearer, and the strap 6 put in place at 8, the trolley M will ride along until the strap 6 is directly beneath the arch of the shoe 1 nestling snugly against the heel of the shoe H. The frictional engagement of the trolley M will hold the same in place, although, where desired, the loop l3 may have a notch arrangement to hold the trolley l4 more firmly in position. However I have discovered that this is not at all essential.
It will thus be seen that the device of my present invention makes allowance for variations in the size and shape of the wearers foot, and will prevent the strap from being forced out of position or riding up over the heel of the shoe ll.
It is quite apparent that variations may be made in the construction of this device from the figures shown in the drawing which are set forth by way of illustration only, without departing from the spirit of this invention or the scope of the claims.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In combination with a legging or the like, a strap portion adapted to be positioned beneath the wearers foot and means to allow said strap portion to vary its position with varying size or shape of such foot independently of any variation in the size of the legging or the like.
2. In combination with a legging or the like, a strap portion adapted to be positioned beneath the wearers foot and means to allow said strap portion to Vary its position with varying size or shape of such foot, said means comprising a trolley slidable on a guide affixed to the legging or the like.
3. In combination with a legging or the like, a strap portion and means to allow said strap portion to vary its position with the size or shape of the wearers foot, said means comprising a loop member afiixed to the legging or the like, a guide member held in position by said loop, and a trolley slidable on said guide.
4. In combination with a legging or the like, a strap positioned at the nether portion thereof, said strap being afiixed to one side of said legging or the like by means of snap fasteners, and to the other side of said legging or the like by means of a snap fastener mounted on a trolley, which trolley is slidable on a guide afiixed to said legging.
5. In combination with a legging or the like, a strap portion adapted to be positioned beneath the wearers foot, and means to allow said strap portion to vary its position with varying size or shape of such foot independently of any variation in the size of the legging or the like, one end of said strap portion being afiixed by means of a snap fastened to said means.
6. In combination with a legging or the like, a strap portion adapted to be positioned beneath the wearers foot, and means to allow said strap portion to vary its position with varying size or shape of such foot, said means comprising a trolley slidable on a guide affixed to the legging or the like, one end of said strap portion being affixed by means of a snap fastened to the slidable trolley.
