cartons, boxes, et cetera.
.Other objects will appear hereinafter. Therinvention consists in the combinations .and arrangements of parts hereinafterdescribed and 30 claimed.
'The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a .part of this specification, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a :preferred embodiment of the invention showing fa figure having aimechanically operated arm rand pointing hand tofact as an indicator, arranged on a unitary A:structure with a supporting plate for the operating .mechanismand for the figure;
Fig. 2 is a l.perspective view of a display frame .designed'to be used inone adaptationof the invention; v
Fig. 3 is afront elevational view of the device employed in .conjunction with the frame shown in Fig. 2 and-operating in-conjunction with any selected carton or box for attracting attention to the display;
Fig-4 is a vertical sectional view taken substanl Fig. 7 is a horizontal sectional view taken subi stantially on the line `I-I of Fig.
Fig. 8 is a rear -vieW of the advertising or display stand Yused in association With the unitary device of the invention as Yshown in Fig. 5; 5
Fig. 9 isa vertical sectional view of the stand taken `on the line 9-9 of Fig. 8;
Fig. .10 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially -on the line I--I `of Fig. 1, with the movable ar-m shown in section to disclose the -con- 1o nection of the arm clamping means; and
Fig. 11 is a vertical sectional View of the `gure employed taken substantially on the -line II-II of Fig. 7.
Referring now to the drawings, particularly to 15 Fig. .1, the preferred embodiment lof the kinvention comprises a figure I4, Which, as shown, may be designed to represent a dollor clown having a-horizontally reciprocable hand .I5 and mounted as a unitary `structure .or assembly in association with a mounting plate I6. VPlate I6 is preferably secured to the figure I4 by means of a connecting portion II of an encircling band or belt I8 adapted to actas a -stiffening and supporting Vmember and bolted to the plate I6 as shown in V25 Fig. 7 to properly maintain the parts in definite spaced relationship. Encircling belt I8 is preferably covered with a concealing fabric material I9 which serves to :effectively coverv and conceal the band I6 and avoid to outward appearances 30 the yrigid unitary structure between the ligure or model I4 and the mounting plate I6 with the associated operating mechanism.
The fgure or model I4 may be of fabric construction, preferably with a filler of compressed hair `2li or similar material, so that the model is of sufcient durability and rigidity in the 4usual operation, but the loose hand 2 I, legs 22, and head -23 are suiciently flexible to be placed in various positions and remain in such selected positions by Yreason of the general construction described.
Mounted rearwardly of the mounting plate I6 is the operating means, consisting preferably -of an electricmotor 24 having the usual cord 25 and connecting plug 26. As shown, the motor 24 may 45 be 'boltedor otherwise secured to the mounting plate I6, and the operating shaft which prefer,- ably extends through plate vI6 to the forward side carries a crank .arm 21 to which is pivotally connected one end of link 28, the opposite end of which is pivotally connected to bar 29 integrally formed with an inner enlarged portion of arm clamp 3U so as to form on a small scale a character of cross head arranged for reciprocating motion Awithin U-shapedguide member 3l mounted upon v55 2 the forward side of plate I6, as shown in Figs. 7 and 10. The clamp 3|] is looped to engage the flexible movable arm of the figure or model I4. By this construction and arrangement the flexible model, the mounting plate for the operating mechanism, and the operating mechanism itself are integrally and conveniently assembled as a unit whereby the device may be conveniently employed for a variety of purposes and quickly installed in many places, in a crowded show window for example, which would be practically inacces-V sible or difficult and time-consuming with the usual constructions.
to produce attaching flanges 32 and 3,3 preferably perforated as at 34 for the reception of connecting bolts or similar devices. ,l
Y For example, plate I6 `may be bolted to the Y Vframe or standard 35, 'shown in Fig. 2, which has a lower horizontal portion 3Iiand a vertical portionf31. The'lateral and bottom edges of the portion 31 arerpr'eferab'ly anged as at 38 for the re- ,ception'Y of-signsfnotices, Vor various vadvertising media. Perforations 34 of plate I6 are arranged to register with openings Y39 ofthe vertical portion 31 ofA standard 35 for convenient attachment.
One practical adaptation of the device isY shown in Figs. 3Y and 4, in which vplate IBis connected to standard 35 for the purpose of supporting the device, one edge of an ordinary merchandise cartonV havingY matter of advertising value on the frontfae isnslitted vertically for the insertion of the connecting'portionsbetween plate I6 and "tl'i'emodelY supporting beltHIB, and legs 22 ofthe yfigure I 4 bent forwardly to a sitting posture after the assembly has been incorporated with theY advertising carton or box 40 as described. -In Vthis employment ofgthefdevice the Ymodel I4V assumes the 'position shown in Fig. 3 alongside the carton,
. which engages the upper edge of stand 4 I. A simgilardetachable arrangement for thebottom brace 1 44is1proyided by hingedly connecting one end to *connected to support-45.
'motor 24 is started, andthf? pointing hand I 5 with the operating mechanism'concealed continuously reciprocates horizontally in such manner asrnot tionfis desired torbe directed. v v
j Another convenient adaptation of the device is -to obstruct-a viewof the matter to'which atten- -illustrated'in Figs,A 5 and 6, using the stand Y4I shown in Figs. 8 and 9 which has a face portion 42 adapted to besupported in an upright positionby rearwardly extending braces 43 and 44 v Y, Y Asv shown in Fig.V 9, brace 43j may be bolted to vsupport 45, and the lforward extremityfwhichV engages the stand 4I preferablydetachably mounted by a hook 46 support at 41, and the Vforward end of brace 44 Yisp'rovided with a downwardly turned iiange 48 ,adapted to detachably engage a complementary ilange 49 arranged adjacent the bottom of stand 4I. VThe entire iorward portion of face 42 is preferably iiianged'along the lateral edges and along vthe bottom edge, as at 50, for the reception of `such placard, sign, notice, oradvertisement as 'may be desired',y Face portion 42 is also preferably v,shearedto provide at Vthe rear thereofnanges 5I for thereception and engagement of flanges 32 and 33 of mounting plate I6.V By the construction `shown the model I4 assumes a standing position, Yhand 2I is rested upon the upper edge of the stand 4 I, and no bolting or other connection of the stand 4I to plate I6 is necessary inasmuch as the To facilitate use of the de-.p Y vice for diierent purposes the upper and lower edges of the mounting plate I6 are preferably bent Vforwardly and then outwardly inthe sameplane Y J5. A deviceof thecharacterdescribed, com- Y prising a model, a movable member onl s aid model, sa'. mounting plate 'arranged adjacentsaid model While I have described and illustrated the preferred form and construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit ofthe invention.
