Inisa1d drawings,
; 1. :LFigur'e 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through the complete structure.
wFigureS is an enlarged bottom plan-view vofa partof the driving mechanism. 1
jFigure 4 is [a horizontal section through tratingthe pawls and ratchet. I 7 v l igure 5,is a section online 55,.Figure 3, the ratchet being shown in'elevation.
Figure, 6".is; aside elevation of a portion of one of the rockers o'f the chair and the centeringmeans or guide used therewith. i Figure 7 'isa sectlon on line 7 7, F1gure 6 Referring to the figures by characters of p is provided with a depending flange 3 below the seat 4. Each of the rockers 5 has, a laterallyextendingstud which can be formed A further object isto provide a movable objects in v eMUsn /rnNrArraR-Arua p 1 Y Application filed March 25, 1527. SeriaL in. 17 311;
of a'scnew, The'rockers 5 are mountedfioh" base str1ps'7 eachhof which 1s*provided,1at
its inner sideedge With'an upwardly extend mg aflangeS, these flanges berngarranged betweenthe rockers 5 and: close to them so'as' to prevent lateral displacement of the rook-- ers relative. to thebase strips. Any suitable means, such as blocks 9, cross stri'psor the plate 10 issecuredto-andextends upwardly from theouter edge of eaclr base strip 7 at;
the center thereof, each platebeingprovided with a slot 11 extendingthereinto-from its which the structure is mounted A guide.
upper edge, said slot being-flared upwardly and receiving one of the st'udsfi, as shown. Thus it will be-seen thatthevchair-l canbe rockedon theba se strips without becoming displacedirelative thereto but it can be easily lifted off i of the base and used-with the g rockers resting directly on the floor.-
The base strips; 7 are connectedqbycross strips 12 secured to the-flanges 8,thus;providingabase, frame-for supporting the'ch'air.
A-longitudinal strip l3 is' secured on thescrew 17 or the like whereby the yoke can be.
frame and has lever 141 fulcruined thereon. 1 i The upperend of this lever'is connected by a pitman 1.5 toayoke 16, having a clamping" readily attached r0 01 detached from the flange 3L then the yokegis attached to this flange the rocking ofthe chair will result in- I oscillation of, the lever.;
Attached to the center ofione end of the I base frame is'a tongue 18"which extends atfits forward end, between spaced bra'ckets forwardly from the' frainefland is secured, I
19 attached to a pedestal base 20 supported by,feet 21 or the like. The. tonguecanbe detachably held to ,thesejbracke'ts by removfable bolts 22 thereby facilitating the separa -t1on of the partswhen knocked; downtor. shipment;
Guide brackets 23 vare secured tothe bottom surfaceof the base" 20 and. slidablyf": v
mounted inthese brackets is a'strip or'slide. 24 one endof which is pivotally; connected as at 25 to a rod 26 whic h is hook'ed into the v slide as shown at25 and is pivotallyconnecn a edto one end of lever 14:. This rod is located J beneath the tongue 18.
The pedestal includes upstanding mend bers' or standards 27 carried by'fthefbase 20 and supporting a head28."
A shaft 2'9:
is journaled in the head and base, the lower end of this shaft being extended througha longitudinal slot formed in the slide 24. Secured to the shaft 29 is a ratchet wheel 31 extending under the slide 24: and pivotally mounted on the shaft below the ratchet wheel are oppositely extending arms 32 each of which has a longitudinal slot 33 extending thereinto from its outer end. Slidable in each of these slots is a studfi l extending from an ear 35 projecting laterally from the slide 24, it being understood that. one of these ears-35is provided for each of the two studs and that the two ears are extended in opposite directions. A pawl 36 is pivotally carried .by each of the arms 32,the pawls being oppositely disposed and adapted to engage opposed portions of the to the shaft, this disk carrying a series of figure toys 39 so that when the disk or table top is rotated the toys will pass succes sively before the occupant of the chair. ()b- Viously any other desired form of rotating 'toy can be connected to the shaft.
In practice the chair 1 is rocked back and forth. Thus the lever 14 is oscillated and will cause the slide 24 to be reciprocated. When the slide moves in one direction the two pivoted arms 32 will be swung about shaft 29 in the direction in which the slide is moving. Consequently one of the pawls will press against and rotate the ratchet wheel whilethe teeth of said wheel will slip past theother pawl. ll/hen the slide 24 is moved in the opposite direction the arms 32 will be swung in the direction in which the slide is moving so that the other pawl which was previously inactive, will engage the ratchet wheel and rotate it. Thus the reciprocation of the slide will result in aplication ofpower to the ratchet wheel from the respective pawls successively and the shaft 29, which is mounted to rotate freely, Y
will thus be rotated continuously in one direction as the chair 1s rocked. I
By detaching the yoke 16 from the flange 3 the chair can be removed from its sup porting base and used independently of the driving mechanism.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. The combination'with a portable base structure, of a movable toy member, toy driving mechanism connected to said structure, a rocking chair resting on and movably mounted relative to said structure, and an operative connection between'the chair and the driving mechanism.
2. The combination with a portable base, of a movable toy member, a supporting structure:therefor, on the base, a rocking chair resting'on and movable relative to said base and structure and means actuated by the rocking chair for moving the toy member. l
3. The combination with a portable base, of a movable toy member, a supporting structure therefor, fixed on but detachably con nected to said base, a rocking chair removably mounted on the base, driving mechanism mounted on the base and supporting structure for actuating the toy member, and a detachable operative connection between said mechanism and the rocking chair.
i. The combination with a movable toy member and a supporting structure therefor, of a base connected to said structure, a
rocking chair mounted on the base, a shaft journaled within the supporting structure, a slide carried by said structure, a driving connection between the rocking chair and the-slide for reciprocating the slide when the chair is rocked, means actuated by the reciprocationof the slide for rotating the shaft in one direction, and a connection between the shaft and the toy member.
5. The combination with a movable toy member, a support therefor, a shaft journaled in the support and connected to the toy member, and a ratchet wheel secured to the shaft, of arms mounted to swing 'upon the shaft, spring controlled pawls carried thereby engaging the ratchet'wheel, a' slide mounted for reciprocation, a pivotaland slidable connection between the slide and each of the arms, a rocking chair, and means actuated by the movement of said chair for reciprocating the slide.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto'aflixed my signa ture.
' EDGAR MAYETTE.
