H. G. WlEKER El AL AMUSEMENT DEVICE 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed June 19, 1934 Inventor.)
iV/ #61 006 06 la Patented Mar. 31, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT -OFFl E 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in amusement devices of the chance controlled type and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character comprising a novel construction and arrangement of pneumatic operating means whereby the invention may be actuated from remote points.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an amusement device of the character described which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, reliable in operation, compact, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the, several views, and wherein Figure l is a view in front elevation of an amusement device constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a view in vertical section through the device, taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a metallic casing I which is open at its front. Mounted on the front of the casing I is a crystal 2 which is secured in position by a flanged retaining ring 3, said retaining ring being threadedly mounted on the casing. Mounted in the forward portion of the casing I and spaced rearwardly from the crystal 2 is a dial 4 the marginal portion of the face of which is numbered, as at 5. The numbers may be, for example, from 1 to 12, inclusive, but it will be noted that said numbers are not in numerical order. The dial 4 rests against an internal flange or abutment 6 in the casing I.
Also mounted in the casing I rearwardly of the dial 4, is an annular housing drum 1 in which a wind-wheel is journaled. The wind-wheel consists of radially spaced blades 8 fixed on a rotary shaft 9 which, it will be noted projects through the front wall of the housing 1. Gears l0 operatively connect the shaft of a pointer II to the wind-wheel for actuation thereby, said shaft of the pointer being journalled in the dial.
Extending between the casing I and the housing 1 is a conduit I2 which, as best seen in Figure 4 of the drawings, extends substantially tangentially into the periphery of said housing I. A flexible conduit I3, preferably of rubber and of any desired length, is connected to the outer end 5 of the conduit I2. Connected to the free end of the flexible conduit I3 is a hand pump l4 of the usual collapsible rubber bulb type. The housing 7 is provided with an air outlet I5.
It is believed that the manner of using the de- 10 vice will be readily apparent. The bulb- I4 is squeezed to force air under pressure into the housing 1 for actuating the wind-wheel 8 which, of course, spins the pointer II. The players score is, of course, determined by the number on 15 the dial G on which the pointer II stops. The player making the lowest score may be the loser or, if desired, it may be agreed that the player making the highest score is the loser.
It is believed that the many advantages of an 20 amusement device constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details 5 of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:-
An amusement device of the class described comprising a casing having a transparent front, a dial supported in the casing and spaced rearwardly of the transparent front, a shaft journalled in the central portion of the dial, a pointer 5 connected to the front end of the shaft and located in the space between the dial and transparent front, a wind-wheel casing located in the first mentioned casing, means for connecting the front of the wind-wheel casing with the rear face 40 of the dial for supporting the wind-wheel casing in spaced relation from the dial, a shaft journalled in the wind-wheel casing and having the front end extending into the space between the said casing and the dial, gears connecting the last 45 mentioned shaft with the pointer shaft, radiating blades connected with the shaft in the windwheel casing and an air receiving conduit having its inner end entering the wind-wheel casing at a tangent and its other end passing through the 5 first mentioned casing, whereby by forcing air through the conduit, the wind-Wheel can be actuated and through the gears and shafts will actuate the pointer.
