IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED VEST AND SUSPENDERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 203,066, dated April 30, 1878; application filed September 17, 1877.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it knownthat I, LEONARD PAULSON, of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oombined Vest and Suspenders, of which the following is a specification: I The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement of a suitable band or elongation at the back of a vest, to which the suspenderstrap is attached and in the arrangement of suitable bands inside of the front part of the vest, to attach either by buttons or other contrivance to the front part of the pants.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure I represents a front view, with the back elongation and strap shown in dotted lines. Fig. II is a vertical section of the same.

AArepresent the two front parts of a vest, made in the usual manner, either with turned collars B or without collars, as may be desired. The upper part or yoke finishes at the back in a single band or elongation, G, to which. the suspender-straps D, arranged to attach to the back part of the pants, are attached, either by means of a buckle or any other suitable contrivance.

Near the lower part, on the inside of the front of the vest, flaps E are attached, to fasten by means of buttons or other suitable contrivance, to the front of the pants, to hold up and support the same.

At the outer lower parts of the front of the vest button-holes n are provided, to fasten to corresponding buttons fast to the pants, for the purpose of fastening these corners of the vest and keeping'the same stretched.

By this combination of the back suspenderstraps and the vest-front the pressure on the shoulders by the use of the usual suspenders is considerably reduced, as the same is more evenly distributed, besides simplifying and reducin g the usual number of articles of dress. At the same time the back-lining of the vest is altogether dispensed with, the side fastenings at 'n keeping the vest straight and stretched; and as the front parts of the vest are attached direct to the pants for the purpose of holding up the same, this front part will be prevented from bulging out, and at the same time will keep the shirt-bosom straight and prevent the same from bulging.

Instead of the vest-pattern, any plain material may be made in the same manner to attach to the front of the pants, having an elongation at the back, to which the straps for the back of the pants are attached, and then a vest made in the usual manner worn over the same.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As a new article of manufacture, the vestfronts A, provided with a strap or elongation, O, at the back,in combination with suspenderstraps D and flaps E at the inside of the vestfronts, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose described.
