2 Claims.
This invention relates to stove doors and has more particular relation to oven doors for gas cook stoves, such as that disclosed in our copending application Serial No. 587,726, filed J anuary 20, 1932, of which this application is a division. While the invention will hereinafter be descrbed as embodied in a gas cook stove, it will readily be appreciated that numerous other features are capable of valuable and advantageous use in stoves of other character and employing heat otherwise generated as from kerosene, electric units, etc.
A principal object of this invention is the provision of a stove door of sturdy and durable construction, the hinges of which will be hidden from casual observation.
Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from the following description, which, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, illustrates a preferred embodiment thereof.
Referring to the drawing, v
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the stove embodying our present invention;
Fig. 2 is a partial perspective view of the stove, showing the oven door open, the parts being broken away to expose certain features of the construction Fig. 3 is a partial detailed section taken through the hinged connection of the oven door; and
Fig. 4 is a partial vertical section taken through the free edge of the oven door.
The stove door shown on the drawing and em'- bodying the present invention comprises a rectangular skeleton frame 55 which is preferably of cast metal. The frame 55 is offset at intervals at 56 to space portions of the frame above or behind the plane of its major part. The front of the door is formed in the present instance of a flat sheet of metal bent at 51 to provide upstanding or rearwardly extending marginal flanges 5B.
Brackets 59 of channel form and having outwardly extending feet 6| are. spot welded at 62, or are otherwise secured to the inner or rear face of the body'sheet of the door and in position to rest within the offset parts 56 of the frame 55, and. bolts 63 are arranged through said offset parts through the brackets 59 to secure the front plate of the door to the frame.
A rear plate 64 having outwardly extending marginal flanges 65 arranged at its free and its side edges is secured to the frame 56 by screws 61 extending into the rectangular frame 55. Insulating packing 68 may be provided between the front and back plates of the door if desired.
The door 25 is hinged in place by a rod Ill which rests in a recess extending across the portion of the frame 55 which is arranged adjacent the pivot edge of the door. The rod 10 is held in place by end plates 69 held by screws H extending through the plates and into the frame 55. The rod 10 extends out through the side flanges of the front and back plates and. into bearings 12 arranged in the frame members 13 at the sides of the oven door opening. A stop and counterbalancing de vice 14 of usual or of preferred construction may be provided to limit and support the door in its movement. Thus constructed and arranged the door may be pivoted in the door opening without evidence of hinging or other connection, as may be observed from Figure 1.
It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts with out departing from the spirit and scope of the invention or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the form hereinbefore described being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.
We claim:
1. A stove door, comprising a rectangular skeleton cast metal frame provided with marginal recesses, and a sheet metal door front, brackets welded to said door front for engagement within the recesses of said cast metal frame, and means for securing said brackets to said frame.
2. A stove door, comprising a rectangular skeleton frame provided with marginal recesses, a front plate having a rearwardlyextending marginal flange, brackets welded to said front plate for engagement within the recesses of said frame, means for securing said brackets to said frame, a rear plate adapted to cover said means, and means for securing said rear plate to the inner face of said frame, said rear plate having a forwardly extending marginal flange co-operating with the rearwardly extending flange of said front plate to enclose the side edges of said frame.
