The invention relates to iactory fabricated rough plumbing units.
An object or the invention is to provide a unitary assembly of waste and air vent pipes and connector members for the discharge and venting of a plurality of fixtures such as closet bowl,
wash stand, sink, bath or wash tub, and the like.
, Preferably, the unit is arranged to provide for substantially iull discharge of such fixtures singly and two or more simultaneously whereby each discharge flow is efiected by full venting and without substantial retardation, and, in addition, the trapping against the escape of sewer and/or other foul gases is insured during the stage of absence of fixture discharge as .well as during fixture discharge.
{i particular feature of the unit is its adaptability to factory fabrication, thus insuring uniformity of efiective sealing quality of the respective joints, the resulting interconnected structure, as well as most emoient spacing and interconnection relationship of the member parts of the unit.
An advantageous feature of the factory fabricated embodiment oi the invention resides in the employment of wrought metal such as copper, copper alloys including brass, and the like for the pipe and fitting members, which are preferably interconnected by sweat joints, 1. e., by the employment of telescoped connections providing'for clearances of reduced dimension to eiiect capillary fiow of the solder or other bonding' medium during the stage of bonding, the solderor equivalent congealing and effecting a sturdy joint afiording proof againt liquid and gas leakage and also against rupture due to mechanical forces.
In the most preferred forms of the invention, the unit provides for the assembly of ahorizontally extending, slightly inclined waste pipe section, toward the free end of which are provided connector members for the discharge and overflow of a bath or wash tub, this horizontal pipe section preferably includes an individual trap member. In addition, the preferred embodiments include a Y-fltting or equivalent connector member communicating at its one upper end with the aforesaid horizontally extending pipe section and at its other upper end with a vertically rising air-vent-waste-pipe section, the lower opening of the Y-fitting communicating with a waste or soil line. Connected with an intermediate portion of the hprizontally extending pipe section is a set of combined air-vent-waste-pipe sections, each preferably vertical in position, and

providing. for connection at an upper end with an upper disposed 'waste line and/or with the outer atmosphere for venting purposes.
Means are provided in the unit for the dischargev of a. closet bowl, preferably into a portion of the horizontally extending discharge pipe section located intermediate the combined air-ventwaste-pipe section and preferably by means of a half-syphon-leg connector member; the connection of the lower end of the half-syphon-leg connector member is preferably through an enlargement pipe section, such as an enlargement T fitting, thereby providing for increased effective volume to insure continuity of substantially full flow through the'half-syphon-leg member in the event of simultaneous discharge of one or more other. fixtures.
In any stage of simultaneous discharge of any two or more fixtures, assembled pursuant to my invention, venting to aiford free flow of the respective andjolnt discharges of the two or more fixtures is had without creating any substantial vacuum or pressure differential tending to or causing a break in the seals in the respective traps, thereby fully complying with standard regulations and precluding the escape of stack or other foul gases at all stages.
Further features and objects of the invention will be more fully understood from the following detail description and the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective elevationof a fabricated unit embodying a preferred form of the invention;

Referring to the drawing, it is illustrated as ajif-iitting, its lower end Mia being arranged for connection with a usual soil pipe; its upper righthand end lib is arranged for connection with connector member l5 for the overflow discharge of such bath tub or the like. As principal features of my invention, I provide for thedischarge flow of a closet bowl through the enlargement fitting l3, and preferably by means of a half-siphon-leg connector member 20, its lower end 20a being sealingly telescoped interiorly or exteriorly, as preferred, relative to the end l3a of the member I3; its upper end 202) is arranged for connection with a complementary half-siphon-leg, preferably by connection with a wall-0n type of closet bowl 2|, see Figs. 2 and 3. In the illustrated embodiment, the body of the closet bowl is molded to provide for the half-siphon-leg passage 22. My invention is of particular advantage for the discharge and venting of an assembly of plumbing fixtures inclusive of a wall-on type of closet bowl or other receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge outlet, such trapway incorporating in its construction an up-leg, i. e. anterior half-siphon-leg forming with the stated half-siphon-leg 22 the siphonic discharge passage of such lateral outlet receptacle. 7' I An especial advantage of the invention resides in the locating of the complete plumbing unit at or above and not below the floor level, indicated by the horizontal line appearing in Fig. 3, thus obviating the relatively enormous costs of cutting wholly through or in part floor material, drilling the floor, supplying thimbles or equivalent cylindrical sheaths for the drilled openings, constructing built-up floors and/or suspended ceilings, necessitated by all present and prior art plumbing systems.
Combined with the above, I further provide one or more connector members for the discharge of, say, a wash stand and/or laundry tub; the connector member 23 and trap 24 illustrate a suitable connection for a wash stand, and the connector member 25 and trap 26 illustrate a suitable connection for a laundry tub.
In a like manner, connection may be afforded for a kitchen sink, such as a connector member 21 and trap 28.
In the specific unit as illustrated in Fig. 1, the respective connector members are especially designed for the location of a bath room and of a kitchen on opposite sides of a common wall, such arrangement being embodied in a model house arrangement. However, it will be understood that the specific types of fixtures and the specific spacing of the essential parts of the plumbing unit may be varied as preferred.
As an essential part of the invention, the jointure of the lower extension of the air-vent-wastepipe section 11, inclusive of the connector member I0, together with the connector member l3 and the half-siphon-leg member 20 constitute a siphon discharge means for a closet bowl, in combination with the combined vertical pipe section H and vertical pipe section II, and the upper interconnecting pipe section l8. Either or both the combined vertical pipe sections II and I I serve as a waste line section for another fixture, such as a wash stand and/or laundry tub, and/or kitchen sink, whereby'during the stage of discharge of one, two or more, complete venting is effected simultaneously with substantially com plete discharge of the respective fixtures, as well as for the complete venting and discharge of the 10 fixtures one at a time.
In the particular unit illustrated in the drawing, there is provided in addition, the complete venting and full discharge of a bath tub simultaneously with one or more of the aforesaid fixl5 tures, and also for single discharge.
As an additive feature of my unit, I arrange the enlargement member l3 to have its opening l3a of effectively enlarged bore, namely, of the enlarged diameter indicated by the arrowed dash 20 line I317 as compared with the lesser diameter of the lower end of the half-syphonleg connector member 20, indicated by the arrowed dash line 200, see Fig. 3, the increased area providing for an increased capacity of the member l3 during 26 the stage of discharge of the closet bowl through the half-syphon-leg simultaneously with the discharge of one or more of the aforesaid fixtures.
Preferably, the assembled pipe sections and fittings are connected to one another by sweat 30 joints, that is, by mutually telescoping the respective abutting ends and sealing and securing the same by solder or other suitable bonding medium which upon cooling attains solid state at ordinary temperatures.
Also, preferably, I employ copper, its alloys, or other suitable thin wrought metal for the pipe sections and fittings, thereby particularly minimizing the total weight of the unit. Reduced weight of the unit imparts portability and renders 40 the unit of especial adaptability for factory fabrication.
In factory fabrication of the unit, the respective extents of projection of the various discharge connector elements are arranged to be substantially (5 uniform on the respective opposite sides of a plane passing through the central elements, the last named being the air-vent-waste-pipe sections II, II. For example, in the unit illustrated in Fig. 1, the extent of projection of the connector member 24 is substantially the same as that of the halfsyphon-leg 20 from the plane passing through the air-vent-waste-pipe sections II, II. Similarly, the extent of projection of the connector member 26 is substantially the same as that of 55 the connector member 21. Such uniform extent of projection greatly facilitates enclosing the unit in a crate, shock, or the like. In such relation, in general, the connector members on the respective opposite sides of the central plane of the unit serve as braces to position the unit as a whole within the shipping or storing container, and function as such substantially without the necessity of auxiliary braces, or other staying means.
Proper factory fabrication of unit also insures 55 rigidity of the joints to withstand not only the mechanical stresses incident in the-use of the unit when installed, but also those encountered in transit and handling in the shipment of the unit to the location of installation.
Units embodying my invention lend themselves applicable as a part of and supplemental to a combined wall structure unit for kitchen and bathroom; in turn combined with the necessary service pipes for the respective fixtures. 7
noaaeri From the above, it appears that my invention results in a combined assbly of waste and airvent pipes or pipe sections coordinated to insure full flow discharge of the fixtures, singly, and two or more jointly,- and at all stages aflording 'the corresponding extents of venting and the absence of pressure difierential upon the seals provided by the trapsin the unit structure or in any fixture per se.

In combination with a receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge, of a substantially horizontally extending member, trap means connected to said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and Water-pipe member, a if-fitting connecting said vertical member with said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and waste-pipe member connected at a lower portion to said horizontally exmnding mem ber remote from the connection of the latter with said first-named combined air-vent and waste-pipe member and connected at an upper portion to said first-named combined air-vent and waste-pipe member, a 'l" fitting connected with-said horizontally extending member, and a hali-syphon=leg connector member communicating with said i fitting.

In combination with a-receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge, of 5 a substantially horizontally extending member, trap means connected to said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and water-pipe member, a Y-fitting connecting said vertical member with said horizonto tally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and waste-pipe member con nected at a lower portion to said horizontally extending member remote from the connection of the latter with said first-named combined airvent and waste-pipe member and connected at an upper portion to said first-named combined air-vent and waste-pipe member, a 'l' fitting having a relatively enlarged diameter adjacent one of its openings connected directly with said horig0 zontally extending member intermediate said two vertically extending members, and a half-syphonleg connector member connected with said one once of the T fitting.

In combination with a receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge, of a substantially horizontally extending member, trap means connected to said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and water-pipe member, a Y-fitting connecting said vertical member with said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and waste-pipe member con nected at a lower portion to said horizontally extending member remote from the connection of the latter with said first-named combined airvent and waste-pipe member and connected at an upper portion to said first-named combined air-vent and waste-pipe member, discharge and trap connector members communicating with each of said two vertically extending members, and a half-syphon-leg connector member communicating with said substantially horizontally extending member intermediate said plurality of. vertically extending members.

In combination with a receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge, of a substantially horizontally extending member, trap means connected to said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and water-pipe member, a Y-fitting connecting said vertical member with said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and waste-pipe member connected at a lower portion to said horizontally extending member remote from the connection of the latter with said first-named combined airvent and waste-pipe member and connected at an upper portion to saidfirst-named combined air-vent and waste-pipe member, a T fitting havg0 ing a relatively enlarged diameter adjacent one of its openings communicating with said horizontally extending member, discharge and trap conhector members communicating with each of said two vertically extending members, and a half- Syphon-leg connector member connected with said one opening of the T fitting. 7. In combination with a receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge, of a substantially horizontally extending member, trap I means connected to said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and water-pipe member, a Y-fitting connecting said vertical member with said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined'g'g air-vent and waste-pipe member connected at a lower portion to said horizontally extending member remote from the connection of the latter with said first-named combined air-vent and wastepipe member and connected at an upper portion to said first-named combined air-vent and wastepipe member, a T fitting connected with said horizontally extending member intermediate said two vertically extending members, a connector member for the discharge of the fixture communicating adjacent the free end of the horizontally extending member, and a half-syphonleg connector member communicating with said T fitting.

In combination with a receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge, of a substantially horizontally extending member, trap means connected to said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined airvent and water-pipe member, a Y-fitting connecting said vertical member with said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and waste-pipe member connected at a lower portion to said horizontally extend ng member remote from the connection of the latter with said first-named combined airvent and waste-pipe member and connected at an upper portion to said first-named combined airvent and waste-pipe member, a T fitting having a relatively enlarged diameter adjacent one of its openings, a connector member including trap means for the discharge of the fixture communicating adjacent the free end of the horizontally extending member, and a half-syphon-leg connector member connected with said one opening of the T fitting.

In combination with a receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge, of a substantially horizontally extending member, trap means connected to said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined airvent and water-pipe member, a Y-fitting connecting said vertical member with said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and waste-pipe member connected at a lower portion to said horizontally extending member remote from the connection of the latter with said first-named combined air-vent and waste-pipe member and connected at an upper portion to said first-named combined air-vent and waste-pipe member, discharge and trap connector members communicating respectively with said two vertically extending members, a connector member including trap means for the discharge of the fixture communicating adjacent the free end of the horizontally extending member, and a half-syphon-leg connector member communicating with said substantially horizontally extending member intermediate said two vertically extending members.

In combination with a receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge, of a substantially horizontally extending member, trap means connected to said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and water-pipe member, a Y-fitting connecting said vertical member with said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and Waste-pipe member con nected at a lower portion to said horizontally extending member remote from the connection of the latter with said first-named combined airvent and waste-pipe member and connected at an upper portion to said first-named combined airvent and waste-pipe member, discharge and trap connector members communicating with each of said two vertically extending members, a connector member including trap means for the discharge of the fixture communicating adjacent the free end of the horizontally extending member, and a half-syphon-leg connector member communicating with said substantially horizontally extending member intermediate said two vertically extending members.

In combination with a receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge, a substantially horizontally extending member, trap means connected to said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined airvent and water-pipe member, a Y-fitting connecting said vertical member with said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and waste-pipe member connected at a lower portion to said horizontally extending member remote from the connection 01 the latter with said first-named combined airvent and waste-pipe member and connected at an upper portion to said first-named combined air-vent and Waste-pipe member, a T fitting connected with said horizontally extending member, discharge and trap connector members communicating respectively with said two vertically extending members, a connector member including trap means for the discharge of the fixture communicating adjacent the free end of the horizontally extending member, and a halfsyphon-leg connector member communicating with said T fitting.

In combination with a receptacle provided with a trapway having a lateral discharge, a substantially horizontally extending member, trap means connected to said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined airvent and water-pipe member, a Y-fitting connecting said vertical member with said horizontally extending member, a vertically extending combined air-vent and waste-pipe member connected at a lower portion to said horizontally extending member remote from the connection of the latter with said first-named combined air-vent and waste-pipe member and connected at an upper portion to said first-named combined air-vent and waste-pipe member, a T fitting having a relatively enlarged diameter adjacent one of its openings, discharge and trap connector members communicating respectively with said two vertically extending members, a connector member including trap means for the discharge of the fixture communicating adjacent the free end of the horizontally extending member, and a halfsyphon-leg connector member connected with said one opening of the T fitting.
