This invention is a novel improvement in fittings for so-called wall closets and the like the principal object thereof being to a provide a novel support for wall closet bowlsr which support is adapted to be built into the wall on which the closet is to be mounted, such as the wall of the utility chamber of the toilet said support being fixedly contained in the wall and the toilet bowl, or like plumbing fixture can readily be attached thereto and be thereby sup ported on the wall without the necessity of providing any other support for the bowl or any underlying support for the bowl on the floor of the room;

it further object is to provide novel v'all bowl support which will enable the proper connections of the bowl or the like i to the waste pipe the water-supply pipe,

and the vent. to be readily made after the bowl is in place and to leave all these connections readily and easily accessible at all times without having to take down the bowl or tear down the wall In the accompanving drawings I have. illustrated one practical embodiment of the invention and will describe the invention -with reference thereto and summarize in the claims the essentials of the invention and novel features of construction for which protection is desired,

back of the bowl or other fixture to be attached thereto; and of a height slightly less than the height of such bowl back. It is of a. length approximately equal to the thickness of the wall V to which the bowl is to be attached. Such wall W is usually interposed between the toilet room and a so called utility vent chamber. The front end of the support 1 is substantially closed by a plate 1 which, however is provided with an opening 1* surrounded externally by a flange K and internally by a caulking hub 1 The caulking hub 1 is adapted to be connected with the waste pipe P which enters the utility vent chamben The opening 1* is adapted to-register with the outlet opening I) of the bowl B as indicated in Figure 1. In the front plate 1 at opposite sides of the caulking hub 1 are bolt openings l for the engagement of the bolts 2 by which back B of the bowl B is fastened to the support. Preferably the plate 1 is thickened or stiffened adjacent openings l and 1 by integral ribs 1 and 1K Y Above the opening 1 in the plate 1 of, the support is an opening l which is preferably made large enough to enable bowls of different sizes or makes to be used The opening 1 communicates with the vent opening I) of the bowl and also permits access to the water inlet 5 of the bowl (see Figure l) The water supply pipe 8 can be suitably connected with the inlet Z)? after the bowl is in position a indicated in Figure l; and access can be conveniently had to the various connections with the wast pipe, supply pipe and vent through the open inner end of the support The vent Z2 is below the inlet opening 5 and registers with the opening 1 in the plate 1 below the pipe 3 If desired the vent Z7 could be connected with a vent pipe (not shown) leading directly out through the open end of the support but in ordinary practice where a utility vent chamber is provided it is not necessary to connect a vent pipe with the bowl as the gases can pass directly from the opening 5 through the opening 1 out into the utility vent chamber.

The bowl B may be of any suitable con struction having an outlet opening Z) vent Z) and inlet b substantially as indicated in the drawings, and having a back 13 adapted to be fitted against the wall and against the front end 1 of the support and be fastened thereto by means of bolts or nuts 2 as indicated in the drawings.

The support 1 is firmly secured in position in the wall by being built thereinto at the place where it is desired to support a wall bowl. The bowl B will be supported in desired position securely and firmly when bolted to the support 1.

The lower portion of the support may be narrowed, as at 1, to reduce its weight, but this is not essential. When the support is so" narrowed I preferably provide it with laterally projecting lugs 1 as shown, in Figures 3 and 4,'whioh provide additional vertical. bearing surface for the. support upon the bricks or masonry in the wall wherein the support is fixed.

In practice a water tight joint can .be formed between the bowl and the outlet 1 by means of a gasket 3 placed in a suitable recess in the base B around the outlet opening 6, said gasket bearing against the annula-r flange 1*" on the outer face of the part 1 and surrounding the opening 1". The end of" pipe P is preferably entered into the caulking hub 1, and a water tight joint formed therebetween by a lead caulked joint 1 as indicated in Fig. 1.

In this construction it is an easy matter to make or repair the joints and connections between the inlet pipe and the bowl, and the waste pipe and the bowl, through the open rear end of the support; and if the b'owl'should happen to become loose, or if any of the connections should become loose, it is not necessary to tear down the bowl or any part of the bowl to. make the necessary adjustments or repairs. 7

The caulking hub 1 may be used for a lead pipe connection, in the usual way, also forconnection with a cast or wrought iron What I claim is:

I. A support forwall closets and the like, comprising a hollow body adapted to be built into a wall and open at its rear and having its front end provided with openings for connection of a drain pipe to the bowl outlet, and for connection of a water supply pipe to the bowl inlet and for the bolts and to fasten the bowl thereto.

2. A support for wall closets and the like as set forth in claim 1, having an inwardly projecting caulking hub surrounding the opening for connection of the waste pipe.

3. A support for wall closets and the like as set forth in claim 1, having an inwardly projecting caulking hub surrounding the opening for connection of the waste pipe and an outer annular flange surrounding the said opening. 7

i. A support for wall closets and the like, comprising a hollow body adapted to be built into a wall and open at rear end having its front end wall provided with openings for connection of a drain pipe to the bowl outlet, for connection of a water supply pipe to the bowl inlet, and for the bowl vent opening; with openings for bolts to fasten the bowl thereto.

5. A support for wall closets and the like as set forth in claim 4 having its front wall reinforced adjacent the bowl and outlet openings.

6. A support for wall closets and the like as set forth in claim l, having an inwardly projecting caulking hub surrounding the opening for connection of the waste pipe.

7. A support for wall closets and the like as set forth in claim 4 having an inwardly projecting caulking hub surrounding the opening in the end wall for connectionof the waste pipe, and having an annular flange surrounding the outer end of said opening.

8. A support for wall closets and the like, comprising a hollow body adapted to be built into a wall and open at rear and closed at front and having its front end wall pro-.

vided' with openings for connection of a drain pipe to the bowl outlet; for connection of a water supply pipe to the bowl inlet, and for connection with the bowl vent openin and also provided with openings forbolts to fasten the bowl thereto; and having its front wall reinforced adjacent the bowl out-- let opening.

9. A support for wall closets and thelikc as set forth in claim 8 having on its inner side an inwardly projecting caulking huh surrounding the opening in the end wall for connection of the waste pipe.

10. A support for wall closets and the like as set forth in-claim 8, having on its inner side an inwardly projecting caulking hub surrounding theopening in the end wall for connection of the. waste pipe, and having an annular flange surrounding the outer end of said opening.
