Description
W. N; Le PAGE. Pistol-Holster.
No. 202,733. Patented April 23, 1878.
N FEIERS, PHOTO-UTHOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON. D (L UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE.
WILLIAM N. LE PAGE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN PlSTOL-HOLSTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,733, dated April 23, 1878; application filed March 14, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM N. LE PAGE, of Boston, of the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pistol-Holsters; and do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a top view, Fig. 2 a side elevation, Fig. 3 a transverse section, and Fig. 4 a longitudinal section, of a holster of my improved kind.
As shown, it is what is termed a pocketholster, as it is designed to be inserted in the pistol-pocket of a pair of trowsers. It is a tapering case made of rubber cloth, or a water-proof material or materials, and provided with a flexile and elastic stiffener, extending, in manner as shown, around the bottom or lower end, and up to the top or mouth of the case. The inner surface of the case is lined with a napped flannel or cloth, a.
In the drawings, A denotes the case, and B the stiffener, which, after passing across the foot of the case, extends in opposite directions, as shown, up to the mouth, all being in manner as represented. This stiffener is a thick or round band of vulcanized rubber, it being inserted between the case and the lining, and cemented thereto.
The stiffener and the case are formed with a bend, as shown at a, to receive and support the end of the stock of a revolver or pistol when its muzzle may be resting on the bottom of the case.
With a pocket-holster made as described, a
pistol can be easily seized, and may be With-' drawn from it with facility in case of emergency. By being water-proof on its sides, it prevents evaporation or moisture from the body of the wearer from being absorbed by it and condensed on the pistol so as to oxidize it.
If desirable, the case may be provided with a flap or cover to its mouth; but I prefer to have the mouth entirely open or without such flap or cover.
The stiffener enables the holster to be easily introduced into the trowsers-pocket, or facilitates the insertion. The sides of the case, being quite flexile, do not hang to or embrace the pistol to prevent its ready insertion or withdrawal, as circumstances may require.
I claim As an improved article of manufacture, the pocket-pistol holster consisting of the waterproof case A and a flexile or elastic stiffener, B, arranged therein substantially as set forth, the whole being lined with napped cloth or other suitable material.
WILLIAM N. LE PAGE.
