Abstract

The present invention relates to a device for releasably mounting a silencer on a firearm, particularly a firearm tube or a firearm tube extension, such as a muzzle brake, comprising a coupling body with a firearm-sided fastening mechanism and a silencer-sided fastening mechanism, wherein at least one of the fastening mechanisms comprises a clamping and releasing slide movably mounted on the coupling body the clamping and releasing slide being movable between a clamping position, in which the clamping and releasing slide is in a form-locking, silencer-sided or firearm-sided clamping engagement, and a releasing position, in which the clamping and releasing slide releases the silencer-sided or firearm-sided clamping engagement for separation from the coupling body.

Description

  • The invention relates to a device for releasably mounting a silencer on a firearm, particularly a firearm with a repeating mechanism, a semi-automatic or automatic firearm, a single-shot or multiloader or the like. In particular the invention relates to a device for releasably mounting a silencer onto a muzzle brake for the firearm.
  • It is known to mount a silencer on the barrel or the firearm tube end with a screw thread. Due to the high thermal and mechanical stressing of the silencer, the silencer fastener needs to fulfil high requirements. In particular when performing a salvo with only little time gaps between the shots, high amounts of gas and temperature hot spots occur. However, screwed silencers have the problem of a complex assembly, as the assembly and disassembly of the silencer consumes time, which is often not available during fast operations.
  • Further, it is desired to not only be able to fasten the silencer on the barrel or the firearm tube, rather in some cases a firearm tube extension is provided at the firearm tube, such as a muzzle brake, on which the silencer is to be mounted.
  • It is an objective of the present invention to overcome the disadvantages of the state of the art, in particular to provide a releasable silencer fastening or mounting device for a firearm with or without a muzzle brake, wherein simple usability when mounting and disassembling the silencer on/from the firearm is necessary and where high stress is to be withstood without having to generally change the basic construction of the firearm or firearm extension.
  • This objective is solved by the features of claim 1. According to claim 1, a device for releasably mounting a silencer on a firearm, in particular a firearm tube or a firearm tube extension, such as a muzzle brake, is provided. A silencer usually comprises cylindrical housing parts, which may serve to provide a connection to the mounting device according to the invention. The invention may ensure that all usual or also future silencer constructions without special variations may be releasably mounted at the basic structure of existing or future firearms. The releasable mounting device comprises a basic body or coupling body, which is particularly produced and mounted separately from the silencer and the firearm, to which on the one hand the firearm and on the other hand the silencer may be connected or is connected. The coupling body is preferably provided hard and rigid such that the firearm as well as the silencer may be supported or carried by the coupling body. The separate coupling body has a firearm-sided fastening mechanism and a silencer-sided fastening mechanism, wherein at least one of the fastening mechanisms comprises a clamping and releasing slide movably mounted on the coupling body. The releasing slide is mounted on the coupling body such that it may be moved translationally between a clamping position, in which the clamping and releasing slide is brought into a form-locked clamping engagement, and a releasing position, in particular reciprocatingly. In the release position, the clamping and releasing slide releases the silencer-sided or firearm-sided clamping engagement in order to separate the firearm or silencer from the coupling body. The fastening mechanism for the releasable mounting device ensures that even an untrained user may easily and securely mount a silencer on a firearm and release it from the firearm without any disadvantages with regard to the arresting of the silencer on the firearm. In particular, providing the basis or coupling body therebetween serves to provide a thermal and mechanical dampening or buffering barrier between the firearm and the silencer. The translationally movable releasing slide assures the easy usability and on the other hand a secure arresting of the silencer. Preferably, the translational moving direction is arranged perpendicular with regard to the axial or shooting direction which is defined by the firearm and/or the silencer.
  • In a preferred embodiment according to the invention, the coupling body movably holds the clamping and releasing slide such that the clamping and releasing slide in the course of its movement amplitude between the clamping position and the releasing position is forced and guided in a single radial direction. Alternatively or additionally, the coupling body at least partially defines a plain bearing in which the clamping and releasing slide is linearly guided in the radial direction and/or which comprises sliding surfaces extending parallel to each other in the radial moving direction, which preferably cooperate with plain bearing surfaces being at the clamping and releasing slide by forming a mounting by plain bearing clearance fit or plain bearing transition fit. The plain bearing shall prevent rotation or movement of the coupling body in the axial direction.
  • According to a further development of the invention, the clamping and releasing slide is spring loaded. Additionally or alternatively, the preferably firearm-sided fastening mechanism of the releasable mounting device can comprise at least one spring or a biasing spring, preferably a spring pair. Preferably, the spring biasing to be applied to the clamping and releasing slide and/or the at least one spring is configured or dimensioned such that the clamping or releasing side is forced in particular in a manually inactive state into the clamping position. In the inactive state, the clamping and releasing slide conclusively maintains in the clamping position and arrests the coupling body at the silencer or the firearm. In the releasing position, the clamping and releasing slide does not maintain by its own.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the coupling body is formed as a connection muffle in particular with a preferably circular or rotational symmetric sleeve shape, in which a plain bearing extending radially through the muffle wall for receiving the clamping and releasing slide is introduced. The coupling body is dimensioned to encompass the silencer or the firing arm at their clamping position. Also, the clamping and releasing slide has at least two grasping arms extending laterally past the silencer or the firearm, which grasping arms may also be end-sidedly coupled to each other to build a ring structure. Thus, at the clamping position, the plain bearings as well as the clamping and releasing slide are dimensioned so large that the silencer or the firearm may be encompassed. In particular, in case of a symmetric plain bearing introduction and a clamping and releasing slide shape adapted thereto a protrusion-recess-arrangement at the coupling body and the clamping and releasing slide is provided such that only one insertion mounting position for the clamping and releasing slide into the plain bearing is allowed.
  • In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the coupling body defines a preferably cylindrical axial passage which comprises a passage minimum cross-section. The axial passage is dimensioned such that axial insertion of the firearm tube or the firearm tube extension in particular only from one side is allowed. Further, the clamping and releasing slide which preferably forms a closed ring shape defines a particularly non-cylindrical axial aperture which defines an aperture minimum cross-section. The aperture minimum cross-section of the axial aperture is dimensioned such that in the releasing position of the clamping and releasing slide no radial overlapping or cross-over is provided by the structure of the clamping and releasing slide with regard to the passage minimum cross-section. In this releasing position, the non-overlapping alignment or lying on top of each other of both passage cross-sections allows an unhindered feeding through of the firearm tube or the firearm tube extension or the connection part of the silencer through the axial passage as well as through the axial aperture. Further, the aperture minimum cross-section of the axial aperture is aligned with regard to the axial passage such that in the clamping position of the clamping and releasing slide, a radial overlapping or cross-over with regard to the passage minimum cross-section of the axial passages provided. The radial overlapping or the radial cross-over may in particular be formed by a clamping section of the particularly ring-shaped clamping and releasing slide, which clamping section is preferably arranged diametrically opposite with regard to an actuation section of the clamping and releasing slide with regard to its moving direction. Additionally or alternatively, the ring section of the clamping and releasing slide engages a clamping counter section of the firearm tube or the firearm tube extension.
  • In a further development of the invention, the at least one fastening mechanism of the releasable mounting device according to the invention is able to apply a radial clamping force, in particular by means of a stored mechanical preload in a single radial direction, on the clamping and releasing slide. The clamping and releasing slide is particularly configured such that in the clamping position, part of the radial clamping force for radially tensioning of the clamping and releasing slide is deflected such that the releasing slide may also apply axial clamping forces to the firearm tube or the silencer.
  • The clamping and releasing slide preferably has a ring-section-shaped clamping section which is preferably arranged diametrically opposite with regard to an actuation section of the clamping and releasing slide with regard to its moving direction and/or defines a clamping surface which is inclined with regard to the axial direction. The clamping surface of the clamping section of the clamping and releasing slide is curved in a circumferential direction, in particular is partially circumferential frustum-shaped, wherein a clamping counter surface at the firearm tube or the firearm tube extension or the silencer is shaped complementary in shape for an arresting clamping engagement.
  • In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the form-locked clamping engagement between the clamping and releasing slide and the silencer or the firearm, in particular the firearm tube or the firearm tube extension, is formed via ring-section-shaped clamping surfaces being inclined with regard to the axial direction. Due to the radial spring biasing and the radial guidance of the clamping and releasing slide in a single radial direction, an axial clamping or arresting of the coupling body with regard to the silencer or the firearm is provided.
  • In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the further firearm-sided or silencer-sided fastening device is realized either via the above-mentioned fastening mechanism according to the invention or via screwing, via a usual bayonet lock or is formed by one piece with the adjacent component.
  • In a preferred further development of the invention the clamping and releasing slide has a preferably closed ring structure in order to completely encompass the component to be coupled thereto, such as the firearm, preferably the firearm tube or the firearm tube extension, or the silencer. The ring-shaped clamping and releasing slide comprises a clamping section, which is preferably positioned diametrically with regard to an actuation section with regard to the moving direction of the clamping and releasing slide, and two outer notches introduced in the ring outer surface for preferably movably receiving two coil springs. The springs may be formed by any spring element, preferably coil springs are to be used. The springs may be supported with one end at a front face of the outer notches and with the other end at a plain bearing wall of the coupling body. The springs serve to linearly bias the clamping and releasing slide in the moving direction such that the actuation section of the clamping and releasing slide is forced radially outwardly. In particular, in the clamping position of the clamping and releasing slide its actuation section slightly protrudes, preferably between 0.5 mm to 2 mm, 5 mm or 10 mm, an outer surface of the coupling body such that upon manually two-dimensionally impressing, the clamping and releasing slide may be moved translationally against the spring pressure, wherein thereby a clamping engagement between the clamping section of the clamping and releasing slide and a clamping counter section of the silencer or the firearm is released.
  • Further, the invention relates to a silencer arrangement with a silencer and a releasable mounting device according to the invention, which is coupled to the silencer by means of the fastening mechanism according to the invention or any usual fastening mechanism. This silencer arrangement may, for example, be releasably mounted on a firearm, such as a firearm tube or a firearm tube extension, in particular a muzzle brake, by using firearm-sidedly the fastening mechanism according to the invention.
  • Further, the invention relates to a silencer arrangement with a silencer which comprises a coupling body as described with regard to the mounting device according to the invention. Also, the silencer arrangement may comprise a mounting device according to the invention in order to allow a releasable mounting and releasing of the silencer from the mounting device.
  • It shall be clear that the coupling body, namely the mounting device, may also be provided either firearm-sided or silencer-sided and may be formed by one piece with the basic body, in particular the barrel of the firearm or the housing of the silencer.
  • Further preferred embodiments are given by the dependent claims.

  • In FIG. 1 a silencer arrangement according to the invention is in general indicated with the reference numeral 1 and comprises the following main components: a silencer 3, a muzzle brake 5 to be mounted on a shaft of a firearm not shown in detail, and a mounting device 7 according to the invention, with which the silencer 3 may be releasably attached on the firearm by completely receiving the muzzle brake 5, wherein in a clamping state a complete vibration-free and clearance-free attachment of the silencer 3 on the muzzle brake 5 is realized.
  • The mounting device 7 has two fastening mechanisms, namely a silencer-sided connection or attachment and a firearm-sided (muzzle-break-sided) connection or attachment 9. In the case which is shown in the figures the mounting device 7 comprises the fastening mechanism according to the invention at the muzzle-break-sided connection 9. That is defined more clearly in the figures. It shall be clear that also firearm-sided a fastening mechanism according to the invention may be provided. Further, it shall be clear that one of the fastening mechanisms may also be configured as an alternative connection or attachment, which may, for example, be formed by one piece, realized by means of screwing or a bayonet lock. The further fastening mechanism does not necessarily have to be releasable, rather may also be inseparably coupled with the silencer 3 or the firearm. The mounting device 7 according to the invention shall assure a damage-free separation of the silencer 3 from the firearm. Preferably, the mounting device 7 shall be releasable from the silencer 3 as well as from the muzzle brake 5. In this case, both fastening mechanisms may be realized by the attachment or connection 9 according to the invention.
  • The silencer-sided mounting device 7 is shown in detail in FIGS. 5 to 10 where the silencer-sided connection is realized by a screwing 10 of a coupling body 11 of the releasable mounting device 7 with an inner tube 13 of a silencer 3. The coupling body 11 comprises essentially a sleeve shape with an axial passage 15 which is formed cylindrically and which defines a passage minimum cross-section Q1 whose diameter is slightly smaller than the maximum diameter of the muzzle of the muzzle brake 5 in particular at its firearm-sided end 17 such that the muzzle brake 5 may be mounted or inserted from its end 17 in an axial direction A (see FIGS. 6b, 7b ). In the cross-section of the coupling body 11 the latter has a U-shape on the inner side which limits an inner recess 15 which essentially is circumferential and in which a clamping slide 16 is movably guided. The coupling body 11 may be formed out of a metal wherein further heat-proof and pressure-resistant materials, such as fiber-reinforced plastics, or the like, may be used. Silencer-sided the coupling body 11 comprises a cylindrical circumferential fastening extension 19, at which inner side a thread for the screwing 10 of the coupling body 11 on the inner tube 13 of the silencer 3 is formed, which inner tube comprises a corresponding outer thread (FIG. 5). A firearm-sided end 21 of the muzzle brake 5 comprises an outer diameter 10 which is slightly smaller than the firearm-sided end 17 of the muzzle brake 5 and smaller than the diameter of the axial passage 15 at its smallest cross-section area such that the coupling body 11 may only be mounted from one side, namely from the end 21 of the muzzle brake 5.
  • The conventional muzzle brake 5 has, at the section facing the firearm beyond of muzzle brake openings 23, a ring-section-shaped clamping counter section 25 which defines a surface 27 being inclined with regard to the axial direction A, which surface 27 shall cooperate arrestingly with a corresponding clamping surface 41 of the clamping slide 16, as will be described later. The inclined ring-section-shaped clamping counter section 25 comprises an angle of slope α with regard to the axial direction of between 20° and 70°, preferably smaller than 60°, in particular between 30° and 50°. The ring-section-shaped outer surface of the clamping opposite section does not extend circumferentially, as may be seen when comparing FIGS. 6a and 6b , rather, is interrupted to provide a guiding track, which according to FIG. 6a in connection with FIG. 7b serves to guide the clamping slide 16 in the moving direction V, which is perpendicular with regard to the paper plane in FIG. 6a . The guiding track is limited by an offset structure which determines a lateral guiding in a radial direction (moving direction V).
  • The clamping slide 16 may be moved via the guiding track 29 between two extreme positions in a translational moving direction V, namely a clamping position, which is shown in more detail in FIG. 7b , and a releasing position, which is shown in FIG. 6b , wherefore the clamping slide 16 is also referred to as a clamping and releasing slide.
  • The clamping and releasing slide 16 is shown in detail in FIG. 8. The clamping and releasing slide 16 comprises a ring structure with a reinforced, on the outside earlier flattened crest with regard to the rounding of the outer side of the coupling body 11, the crest serving as a manual actuation section 33. The actuation section 33 has a corrugation at its outer surface. At the actuation section 33 a pin 35 extending in the axial direction is provided which protrudes at an axial side of the clamping slide 16 and which may engage into a recess 37 of the muzzle brake 5, the recess 37 being configured as a radial offset and arranged only at one axial side adjacent with regard to the clamping and releasing slide 16, in order to only provide a single insertion option for the axially symmetrical clamping and releasing slide 16. The pin 35 is also configured as an alignment pin or dowel pin and is fixedly inserted into a corresponding hole in the crest 33 of the clamping and releasing slide 16. The pin 15 serves as a radial stop for the limitation of the movement amplitude of the clamping and releasing slide upwardly in the moving direction V, away from the coupling body. The pin 35 abuts the inner side of the outer tube 36 of the silencer 3 in a path-limiting way, which is particularly shown in FIGS. 9 and 10.
  • In a correct inserting position a clamping ring section 39 of the clamping end releasing slide 16, which is arranged diametrically opposite with regard to an actuation section 33, lies on the clamping surfaces 27, 41, which comprise the same angle of slope α, as it is clearly indicated in the mounted clamping position of the mounting device 7 in FIG. 6 b.
  • As it is shown in FIG. 8, the coupling body 11 comprises an access slit 43 extending in the radial direction, via which the clamping and releasing slide 16 may be translationally glidingly inserted into its plain bearing which is laterally limited by the muzzle-break-sided guiding track 29 and the coupling-body-sided recess 15. In the plain bearing the clamping and releasing slide 16 is guided such that it may be inserted and may exit in the moving direction V wherein only a one-dimensional translational movement within the plain bearing is allowed.
  • The clamping and releasing slide 16 is spring-biased in the moving direction V such the actuation section 33 is pushed radially outwards, wherein the clamping ring section 39 is pressed onto the muzzle brake 5, namely onto the clamping counter section 25 (see FIG. 6b ) in the same biasing direction, whereby an arresting attachment of the coupling body 11 on the muzzle brake 5 is achieved. When mounting the coupling body 11 onto the muzzle brake 5 and when arriving at the clamping counter section the clamping ring section 39 of the clamping and releasing slide snappingly engages the clamping counter section 25 due to the spring biasing. The position of the coupling body 11 of the clamping and releasing slide is determined in the radial as well as in the axial direction. The arresting in the circumferential direction is achieved by means of the rotational plain bearing shape and its clearance-free manufacturing.
  • The spring biasing of the releasable mounting device 7 is provided by a pair of coil springs 51, 53 which on the one hand are hold in corresponding outer notches 55 of the clamping and releasing slide 16 and on the other hand in corresponding inner notches 57 in the coupling body 11 in the area of the plain bearing. The coil springs 51, 53 function as pressure springs, which realize the above-mentioned spring biasing. The spring biasing may also be achieved by other spring elements in order to elaborate the desired preload onto the clamping and releasing slide 16.
  • In the mounted state of the mounting device 7 (FIG. 6a and FIG. 6b ) the spring biasing and the circumferential ring structure for the clamping and releasing slide 16 elaborate that the actuation section 33 slightly protrudes the outer surface 61 of the coupling body 11 in order to manually allow a movement amplitude of 0.5 mm to 2 mm for the clamping and releasing slide in a radial moving direction V upon a manual two-dimensional loading of the actuation section 33. In the clamping position of the clamping and releasing slide 16 the clamping ring section 39 lies on the clamping counter section 25, wherein the radially acting spring forces due to the axial inclination of the clamping surfaces 27, 41 also receive an axial holding force. When the clamping and releasing slide 16 is manually radially impressed the clamping ring 33 releases its clamping engagement with the clamping counter section 25 and the clamping and releasing slide 16 is in the releasing position. Further, the clamping ring section 39 gets beyond an axial overlapping area with the axial passage 15 such that an unhindered axial mounting and disassembling of the muzzle brake 5 through the axial passage 15 is allowed.
  • It shall be clear that, in case no muzzle brake at the weapon tube end may be provided, the corresponding configuration of the weapon tube end may be provided in accordance with the above described muzzle brake. In particular, the weapon tube shall comprise the clamping counter section 25 as structure. Further, the guiding track 29 should be positioned at the outer surface of the weapon tube.
  • In order to prevent that the coupling body 11 is pushed over an actuation corrugation of the muzzle brake, an axial stop 52 is arranged as a separate component axially adjacent the muzzle brake corrugation which slightly radially protrudes to the outside such that the coupling body 11 is blocked from being pushed over the muzzle brake. Preferably, the axial stop 52 is configured as a U-shaped ring or as a slit spring steel ring.
  • The clamping and releasing slide 16 has an axial aperture 67 with an aperture cross-section which is configured such that in the releasing position of the clamping and releasing slide 16 the axial passage 15 of the coupling body 11 is overlapping-free and axially aligned or flush, while in the clamping position a rim limit of the axial aperture provides a cross-section-overlapping with regard to the axial passage 15 and is dimensioned such that a disassembly of the muzzle brake in the axial direction A is locked. The axial passage 67 comprises an oval shape differing from the cylindrical shape of the circular aperture minimum cross-section of the axial passage 15 in order to achieve a position-dependent overlapping between the axial aperture 67 and the axial passage 15 in the clamping position. In the releasing position no axial overlapping exists between the axial aperture 67 and the axial passage 15.
  • The releasable mounting device according to the invention provides an arresting of the silencer 3 on the firearm essentially without a screw thread. It shall be clear that a screw thread may be provided with regard to the attachment of the silencer housing at the mounting device 7. The mounting device 7 on the other hand serves as a thermal buffer or cushion. The manually very easily operable fastening mechanism of the mounting device 7 according to the invention achieves that untrained users may easily and fast attach the silencer 3 on the firearm, in particular the muzzle brake 5, and disassemble therefrom.
  • The features disclosed in the preceding description, the figures and the claims may individually as well as in any combination be relevant for the realization of the invention in the different configurations.
