I Referring now to the drawing, the compact includes a rigid body preferably of vitreous material,` which may include a back element comprising a silver-backed glass plate I0 preferably beveled-at I0' and a face element comprising a thicker` annular body II preferably of a vitreous 'materiaL which may also be of glass, peripherally'bevele'd atII, and having preferablya gunmetal or other colored, mirror back. The two elements, ID and Il making up the body are securely bonded together preferably by'an annular c sheet I2 of Celluloid which may be covered with shellac `and ,theV adhesiveness of which is developed by compressing these elements together. The `powder receptacle I3 is a flat sheet metal A`cup snugly lfitting theinner periphery I4 of the annular face element and provided with a rim I5 engaging the front of the face element and with an outer bead I6 protruding outwardly and contacting said face element at its outer rim I6'. The cup is firmly secured in the body, preferably by interposed plastic cement I'I.

The cupl I3is1 provided with a cover, usually a hinged cover. In a desirable construction, the inner face of said plate has a central depression 5 35 which may be silvered prior to application of the paint or enamel backing. Thus, the front of said plate has a polished enamelled metal-like appearance, although the exposed face is of glass plate and therefore not subject to scratching, chippingorother injury to the paint or enamel coating atthe protected inner face.

Preferably, one of the lock strips 34 extends along the depression 35 and the major portion of its thickness is thus lodged within the thickness of the outer plate 29, thereby rendering the cover construction atter than it otherwise would be. A compact unit comprising a body including a silvered mirror back element, a colored mirror .annular face element, an annular Celluloid cement bond connecting said elements into a unitary body, a sheet metal cup lodged in said 15 body and cemented against the back of said mirror element, said cup having a bead overlapping the Yinner periphery of the face element.

An article of the character described, comprising a cover member comprising a bezel, two 20 rigid plates lodged in back to back relationin said bezel, a lock member intervening between said plates and engaging 4said bezel and a lock ring lodged in the rim of said-bezel and contacting one ofA said plates. 25

7. An article of the character described, comprising a bezel, rigid bevelled plates lodged in said bezel in back to back relation, one or more-sheet metal members interposed between said plates,

An article of the character described, comprising a bezel, rigid bevelled plates in back to back relation in said bezel, a soft metal stripv of 35 length greater than the diameter of saidbezel, engaged at its ends with said bezel and reacting against the adjacent faces of said rigid plates, said bezel having means at thevopposite faces thereof in Contact with the bevelled rims of the 40 respective plates to lock the same in position.

9. An article of the character described, comprising a bezel, having an inturned flange at one face and a cylindrical skirt at the other, a rigid bevelled plate in said bezel engaging saidA in- 451';

An article of the character described comprising a sheet metal bezel, vitreous Ybevelled plates in back to back relation within said bezel, a brass strip of length somewhat greaterthan the diameter of said bezel, extending diametricall ly thereacross and lodged at its ends in said bezel and tending to push said plates apart, said bezel having an obliquely inturned flange engaging the bevelled rim of one of said plates and a lock ring friction-fitted in said lbezel and engaging the bevelled rim of the other plate. An article of the character described comprising a bezel, a vitreous bevelled plate held in said bezel, having a silvered depression in the middle of its back,.a transverse metal -strip of ?V length somewhat greater than the diameter of said bezel, lodged at itsmiddle in said depression and engaging said bezel at its ends, a bevelled mirror in back to back relation with said bevelled plate and a lock ring engaging the bevelof said mirror and retained in said bezel.

An article of the character described comprising a bezel having an obliquely inturned flange at one face thereof, a vitreous member having a bevelled edge engaging said inturned flange, said vitreous member having a depression near the middle of its back, a brass locking structure comprising two or more diametrical arms angularly spaced, of length greater than the diameter of said bezel and locked at their respective ends in said bezel, one of said arms extendinginto said depression, a bevelled mirror engaging said locking structure and a crimped lock ring frictionally engaging said bezel at its outer periphery and the bevelled edge of said mirror at itsinner pe- Y riphery.

A powder compact comprising a body including a reflecting back element and an annular face element, adhesive means bonding said elements together, said body determining a well for containing powder, said well of height substantially equal to the thickness of said annular face element and of base area substantially that of the opening in said annular element.
