Abstract

The invention relates to a romper suit for crawling babies, characterised in that it is made by using two types of fabric, namely: an inner fabric made from 100% cotton or a cotton and polyester mixture, which protects the baby's skin or clothing; and an outer mesh-type fabric made from 100% polyester or 100% nylon. The romper suit is provided with: a bies tape around the neck and armholes, which is made of the inner fabric; an elastic material sewn between the first and second fabrics at the waist, ankles and cuffs; protectors at the knees and the soles of the feet, comprising an inner padded layer and an outer ant-slip layer; and closing snaps or buttons on the upper part of the shoulder. The romper suit can be made with or without sleeves.

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Techical Field
The present invention reates to a suit specially designed for babies who are in the crawling stage; said suit being characterized in that it is lightweight, cool, comfortable and flexible. In combination with two fabrics, the suit produces an effect that protects from the environment by preventing the cloth from becoming soiled easily. The standard basis for making this suit would be taking the average measures of the body of a baby between 5 and 15 months.
2. Prior Art
U.S. Pat. No. 2,355,193 of inventor Ulysses Sylvester Walker describes: This invention relates to a general type garment designed especially for use in mechanical works whose activity is primarily developed in a knees position, whereas the present invention is a suit designed for crawling babies to superimpose on the normal clothes used daily by the baby. The suit is characterized by the combination of two fabrics preventing the baby's clothes from becoming worn and soiled because completely covers the body. The suit has an elastic support in the waist, ankles and cuffs (if the crawling garment is long sleeved) and said support is to facilitate the movements of the baby while crawling. The suit comprises padded protections in knees, and a non-slip material on said protections that protects the baby and preventing him from slipping when crawling. In addition, the suit has covered the feet zone to protect socks against wear and tear and dirt. On the bottom of the feet, the suit has padded protections and above them a non-slip material is disposed to prevent slips, falls and blows and also facilitates babies to stand more safely.
The U.S. Pat. No. 5,659,895 of inventor Thomas J. Ford, Jr. describes: a suit for a zero gravity environment for astronauts whereas the present invention is a suit designed for crawling babies to superimpose on the normal clothes used daily by the baby. The suit is characterized by the combination of two fabrics preventing the baby's clothes from becoming worn and soiled because completely covers the body. The suit has an elastic support in the waist, ankles and cuffs (if the crawling garment is long sleeved) and said support is to facilitate the movements of the baby while crawling. The suit comprises padded protections in knees, and a non-slip material on said protections that protects the baby and preventing him from slipping when crawling. Sciortino describes: The present invention relates to padded knees incorporated into a garment to protect children against injury and falls when crawling, whereas the present invention is a suit designed for crawling babies to superimpose on the normal clothes used daily by the baby. The suit is characterized by the combination of two fabrics preventing the baby's clothes from becoming worn and soiled because completely covers the body. The suit has an elastic support in the waist, ankles and cuffs (if the crawling garment is long sleeved) and said support is to facilitate the movements of the baby while crawling. The suit comprises padded protections in knees, and a non-slip material on said protections that protects the baby and preventing him from slipping when crawling. The suit is characterized by the combination of two fabrics preventing the baby's clothes from becoming worn and soiled because completely covers the body. The suit has an elastic support in the waist, ankles and cuffs (if the crawling garment is long sleeved) and said support is to facilitate the movements of the baby while crawling. The Publications US2000400473 & WO2005082181 of inventor Inmaculada Mũnoz Rodriguez describe a coverall (superimposable pants) having feet and knee pads to protect the child and his clothes while crawling, whereas the present invention is a suit designed for crawling babies to superimpose on the normal clothes used daily by the baby. The suit is characterized by the combination of two fabrics preventing the baby's clothes from becoming worn and soiled because completely covers the body. The suit has an elastic support in the waist, ankles and cuffs (if the crawling garment is long sleeved) and said support is to facilitate the movements of the baby while crawling. Problem to solve: There are parents who prevent their baby from crawling for several reasons. Some of them would be that the baby's clothes will become worn and soiled which will cause an extra expense of detergent, electricity and time because of the need of having to wash more often the baby clothes. Another problem would be that the baby may suffer scratches, slips or falls or just constantly become ill because of the dirt on the floor where the baby crawls. Some parents are unaware of the importance that his son goes through the stage of crawling before walking. The baby crawling stage starts approximately 5 months and ends around 15 months. This stage is of fundamental importance to the psychomotor development of the baby, and also provides the baby the possibility of looking after himself to seek stimuli, gives the baby foundations of security which provide the foundations for a strong and early self-esteem. The babies in the crawling stage have no chance to communicate with their parents to tell them what they need to feel comfortable and confident. I began to look closely my daughter and other babies and I realized they showed the following signs: Babies when crawling seek to change the way of crawling as they get tired because they lack of support or protection in his body. Also, babies have suffered slips, scratches and falls when they want to stand up or crawl on knees. How to solve the problem: The present invention proposes the design of a baby crawling garment which solves the above problems as it fully protects the clothing to prevent soiling and wear. Thus, parents avoid having to wash up daily more than two clothes, thereby decreasing the spending of detergent, electricity and time. The garment has brackets around the waist, ankles and cuffs (if a long sleeved crawling garment) that facilitates mobility when crawling. The garment has also cushioned kneepads that provide comfort and prevent slipping when babies are crawling, thereby decreasing the risk of bumps, bruises and falls. A cushioned and anti-slip protection is disposed on the foot sole to help babies to get more support, comfort and security when they stand up for the first time, thereby reducing the risk of slips and falls and the consequential bumps and bruises. The fabric of the crawling garment is light, thin, elastic and mostly does not cause an allergic reaction if contact the baby skin so the baby will not have any discomfort when putting the crawling garment on with or without clothing. In case of hot weather, the garment will be sleeveless.
The present invention covers most of the basic needs of babies and parents as the baby will crawl in conditions of greater safety and comfort while parents will see that baby clothes stay clean and wear-free. It is very important to note that the baby crawling garment not in any way affect the activity of crawling, the effort of movement, the dimension of space, the strength and musculatorio exercise will remain controlled by the baby.
With this garment, most of the problems that parents think having to leave their child to crawl will be solved.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The present invention proposes a new garment or suit for the crawling stage of babies from 5 to 15 months of age. To this end, the following benefits derived from activities that are described herein were taken into account: the reciprocating movement, right arm with left foot, left arm with right foot, which involves the cross pattern breakthrough which exercises the coordination between the two brain hemispheres, which will make possible a balanced body movement and create neurologic information routes from one hemisphere to another. This is not only important because the foundations for higher functions of the movement will be settled, but also the creation of new brain connections will be stimulated. It will help the baby to develop and muscle better the cervical area to try to lift his head resting on his outstretched arms and strengthen and exercise his muscles that support the spine, babies discover new things and do their best to reach them, drives them to make aside any obstacle that might arise, they lower their head to avoid hitting, crawl along the floor to get to a place no matter whatever is on the way. Crawling also develops correct vision, balance and touch, all these and more being the benefits for the baby if crawl.
The present invention is a special crawling suit or garment for babies which is light, fresh, flexible, elastic, prevents baby clothes from getting dirty, prevents slipping, falls and bruising and provides more safety and comfort. The garment is made by two different types of fabric, an inner fabric and an outer fabric that covers from the neck to the foot: it can be with sleeves or sleeveless depending on the time of year (cold or heat). The garment has twisted ways around the neck and each of the armholes made with the inside fabric. Fasteners are distributed along the back to close the suit.
The garment comprises protections in the following areas:

- 1. The first protection is located in the area of the baby's knees, said protection consisting in an inner padded element and an outer anti-slip means.
- 2. The second protection is located in the sole of feet, said second protection consisting in an inner padded fabric and an outer anti-slip means.

To provide greater ease in body movements, the crawling garment includes elastic supporting means in the following areas:
Long sleeved baby crawling suit: The elastic supporting means are sewn in each of the fists, around the waist and around the ankles. The elastic means are sewn between the two fabrics for the baby is not in direct contact with the elastic material.
Sleeveless baby crawling Suit: The elastic supporting means is sewed around the waist and around the ankles. The elastic means are sewn between the two fabrics for the baby is not in direct contact with the elastic material.

DESCRIPTION OF FIGURES

FIG. 1 is a front view of the long sleeved baby crawling suit, which is described below:

(1) Bies in inner fabric neck. The bies is made with the inner fabric as a decorative or design member of the garment.

(2) Bies in inner fabric armhole. The bies is made with the inner fabric as a decorative or design member of the garment.

(3) Inner fabric: 100% cotton or a polyester/cotton combination. Any combination percentage of fabrics can be used as the garment manufacture will depend on the season temperature (hot, cold, wet, etc.). The purpose of this component is to protect the baby's clothes.

(4) Outer fabric: Mesh-type material wherein said fabric may be 100% Polyester or 100% Nylon, as the garment manufacture will depend on the season temperature (hot, cold, wet, etc.). The purpose of this component is to protect the baby's clothes.

(5) Elastic supporting means. The purpose of this material is to provide support for the baby's body to facilitate his movements when crawling.

(6) Neoprene padded protections for knees and soles of the feet. The purpose of protections is to provide comfort for knees and soles of the baby.

(7) Rubber or silicone anti-slip protections for knees and soles of the feet. The purpose of said protections is to reduce slips thus avoiding falls, bumps and bruises, They provide security when the baby wants to stand up for the first time.

The FIG. 2 is a rear view of the long sleeved baby crawling suit which io is described below:

(1) Bies in inner fabric neck, The bies is made with the inner fabric as a decorative or design member of the garment.

(5) Elastic waist supporting means. The purpose of this material is to provide support for the baby's body to facilitate his movements when crawling.

(7) Rubber or silicone anti-slip protections for knees and soles of the feet. The purpose of said protections is to reduce slips thus avoiding falls, bumps and bruises. They provide security when the baby wants to stand up for the first time.

(8) Closing means. The function of these means is to close the baby crawling suit.

The FIG. 3 is a front view of a sleeveless baby crawling suit, which is described below:

(5) Elastic waist supporting means. The purpose of this element is to provide support for the baby's body to facilitate his movements when crawling.

The FIG. 4 is a rear view of sleeveless baby crawling suit which is described below:

(8) Closing device. The function of these devices is to close the baby crawling suit.

THE BEST METHOD FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION

For carrying out manually the present invention, the average measurements of a child between 5 and 15 months are taken to draw the pattern or design for making the crawling baby suit. Based on the pattern, two kinds of fabrics * (inner and outer fabric material) are cut leaving a little margin for the seams; then the two fabric materials are spliced by tacking and attaching them to shape the crawling suit.
The bias of neck and armholes are stitched with the inner fabric. Subsequently, the elastic supporting means are sewn between the two fabrics in the waist and ankle areas. If the long sleeved pattern is used, the elastic supporting means are sewn between the two fabrics in the fist area of the baby; then, the closing means are sewn in the horizontal middle area of the back which are used for closing the crawling baby suit.
For the next step, the protectors are made based on the average of the knees of a 5 to 15-month-old baby to form an oval-shaped protection. Based on such pattern, the anti-slip and cushioned materials are cut and then they are integrated to the suit fabrics by sewing them on the two types of fabric in the knee area following the process described above. Similarly, the pattern of the protectors for the sole of the feet is made, that is, based on measurements of the sole of the foot of a 5 to 15-month-old baby; and then they are sewn on the two types of fabric in the sole area of the feet following the process described above.
Description of the fabrics for making the baby crawling suit:
1.—Inner Fabric: 100% cotton or a cotton/polyester blended fabric. Any combination percentage of fabrics may be used as the garment manufacture will depend on the season temperature (hot, cold, wet, etc.).
2.—Outer Fabric: Mesh-type material wherein said fabric may be 100% Polyester or 100% Nylon, as the garment manufacture will depend on the season temperature (hot, cold, wet, etc.).
Having described my invention enough, I consider a novelty and therefore claim as my sole property, the matter contained in the following claims.

Claims

1. A crawling suit for babies comprising:

a combination of two different types of fabric, a first inner fabric (3) comprises 100% cotton or a cotton/polyester combination to protect the baby's clothing or bare skin; a second mesh-type outer fabric (4) comprising 100% polyester or 100% nylon;

said second fabric being the outer covering of the suit, which, in combination with said first inner fabric, protects the baby from the environment; said suit also comprises bies (1) around the neck and each of the sleeves (2), which are made of the first inner fabric (3); said suit also comprises an elastic material (5) sewn between the first fabric (3) and the second fabric (4) in areas of waist, ankles and cuffs; in addition, said suit comprises protectors in areas of the knees and the soles of feet of the baby,

said protectors being made by a first layer of neoprene (6) and a second layer of an anti-slip material sewn on fabrics (3) and (4); said suit has closing device (8) distributed over the back area.

2. The crawling suit for babies of claim 1, wherein said closing device (8) comprise snaps or buttons.

3. The crawling suit for babies of claims 1 and 2, wherein the suit is a sleeveless garment.
