Description
Sept. 3, 1935. MCKEON 2,013,282
LICENSE TAG Filed Feb. 26, 1935 I nventmr By @mwifi.
Attorney Patented Sept. 3, 1935 STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in license tag holders and more particularly to a holder which can be used on license tags in various positions to accommodate various characteristics of the tag.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a holder which can be used either with tags having the slots therein for accommodating holders, or tags merely having the circular bolt openings.
During the course of the following specification a and claim other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader. 7 In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a front elevational view of the license tag held in place by the novel holder.
Figure 2 represents a sectional view taken substantially on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 representsa fragmentary vertical sectional view taken substantially on line 3-3 of Figure 1. i
Figure 4 represents a fragmentary horizontal sectional view showing the holder being used with a tag having a round opening.
Figure 5 represents a horizontal fragmentary sectional view showing the holder being used with atag' having a round opening, but without the retaining plate.
Figure 6 represents retaining plate. 7 r
Figure '7 represents aperspective view of the retainer proper.
Figure 8 represents a fragmentary detail sectional view showing the holder employed without the retaining plate shown in Figure 6 and. shown employed together in Figures 2 and 4.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the holder consists of the main plate 5 of rectangular shape a perspective view of the and provided with a longitudinally extending rib 6 thereon through which and the main plate 5 is a threaded opening 7. '45
V Extending laterally from the ends of the main plate 5 and at right angles to th e ends of the rib 6 and beyond the "side of the main plate 5 opposite from the side having the rib 6 are the lugs 8-8. These lugs 8-8 are intended to engage through the slot 9 of a license tag 10 so equipped, Figure 2 showing the usual bracket I I having the slot I2 therein coincident with the slot 9.
y In conjunction with the main plate 5, a retaining plate I 3 is employed, the same having notches l4 atthe ends thereof and a central opening l5 through which the bolt l 6 extends. When the tag Illa (see Figure 4) is provided merely with a circular opening II, the retaining plate I3 can be employed as a washer between the head of the screw and the tag Ilia, or as shown in Figure 5, the retaining plate can be entirely eliminated, but
When the tag H] is provided with the slot also,
' the lugs 8 engage through the slot 9 (see Figure "that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from in both events the rib 6 anchors the main plate 5 by engaging into the slot l2 of the bracket.
the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what I claim as new is: V
In combination with a license tag having an opening therein, a slotted supporting bracket for the tag, a holder, said holder including a main plate, a rib extending across the plate, said rib being engageable into the slot of the bracket, said plate and rib having a threaded opening there-
