MUSIC PRINTING DEVICE Filed Aug. 6, 1934 ZarZ fiaze,
Patented Sept. 3, 1935 UNITEDSTATES PATENT OFFICE MUSIC PRINTING DEVICE Earl Maze, Fort Wayne, Ind. Application August 6, 1934, Serial No. 738,745
' music, the general object of the invention being to provide a casing shaped to fit the hand and having a pen holder at one end thereof and a disk rotatably supported by the casing and having type characters thereon whereby by pressing these characters upon an ink pad, such characters can be printed on paper and the like, the pen point being used for making marks not on the disk.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention'in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and
' in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary end view of the disk showing a character thereon.
In this drawing, the letter A indicates a casing which is of narrow construction and provides the curved top I and the flat sides 2, one end of the casing forming a tubular part 3 shaped to receive a pen point 4. The opposite end of the casing is formed with a projecting part 5 and a smaller lower projecting part 6, the two parts forming a recess 1. The device is adapted to be held in one hand with the base of the thumb fitting in the recess 1, the forefinger extending over the curved top I with the tip of this finger resting in the curved part 9 and with the tip of the thumb resting in the recess 8 in one side 01' the casing, some of the other fingers engaging the opposite side of the case. A disk I0 is rotatably supported by the casing by having the pin l I passing through the lower portions of thesides of the casing and through the center of the disk and said disk carries the printing characters l2 on itsperiphery and similar characters l3 on each face thereof adjacent the characters I 2 so that one observing the characters l3 will know what character I2 is in printing position.
I prefer to make the characters as treble clef mark, bass clef mark, sharp, fiat, natural, quarter rest, half rest, eighth rest, whole note, half note stem up, half note stem down, quarter note stem up and quarter note stem down, thirteen 10 in all.
The pen point is used for ties, measure lines and for marks not on the disk. A standard pen point fits the instrument and writing is done by Simply tilting the hand slightly to the right.
A rubber stamp pad is used for the inksupply and, of course, a bottle of ink is used for the pen.
With this invention one can readily print music characters, using the pen for lines, ties and for making marks not on the disk.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It isto be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that. such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:-
A printing device of the class described comprising a narrow casing having fiat sides and a curved top, a projection at one end of the casing forming a rest for the tip of a finger contacting the curved top, upper and lower projections at the other end of the casing forming a space between them for receiving the base of a thumb with a part of the thumb contacting one side of the casing and some of the other fingers engaging the opposite side of the casing, and'a type carrying disk rotatably supported in the casing and 40 having a portion extending from the casing.
