IMPROVEMENT IN HOT-AIR DEFLECTORS AND EVAPORATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 201,054, dated March 5, 1878; application filed January 23, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. SExToN, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Hot- Air Deflectors and Evaporators, of which the following is a specification; and I do hereby declare that in the same is containeda full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to certain improvements in a hot-air deflector and water-evaporator for which Letters Patent of the United States No. 17 6,943 were granted to Simon Fairman, May 2, 1876; and consists in the combination, as hereinafter described, of the deflector-box with a wall-lining, whereby the deflector is secured to the wall in a neat and durable manner. The wall-lining occupies the space filled in the Fairman invention by the hot-air register, which I dispense with. The mode of attachment between the walllining and deflector is such as to enable the latter to be readily removed from the former.
In the further description of the patented device as improved herein, reference is made to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, and in which- Figure I is a vertical section of the improved device. Fig. II is a partly sectional front view of the invention, and Fig. III a partly sectional plan of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts of the invention in all the views.
A is an ornamental box, having in the front thereof the slots to, adapted to be closed or opened at pleasure by means of a slotted plate, b, constructed to have a limited sliding motion within the said box. The movement of the said slotted plate b is obtained through the medium of a pin, 0, projecting from the said plate through a horizontal slot in the front of the box.
To enable the box A to be cheaply and easily constructed, it is formed in sectionsthat is to say, the top, front, and sides are separate, and attached by means of bolts or screws, as shown in the drawing.
0 is a removable water-tray, placed in the upper part of the box A, and covered by a perforated plate, D, which allows of the escape of moisture from water contained in the tray when heated by the action of heated air passing into and through the said box.
E is the frame before alluded to, secured within the aperture F in the wall G, in place of the ordinary register-frame. The frame E is provided with a slot, d, in the upper part thereof, and the box A with a projection, e, which fits therein; and the said plate is further provided with a bead or projection on the outer face thereof, which serves to steady the box A when applied thereto. The lower part of the box A is secured to the frame E by means of a screw or bolt, which bolt, when removed, admits of the detachment of the said box from the frame and wall.
In addition to the advantage of dispensing with the complete register used in connection with the patented device, the absence of slats in the frame E admits of the cleaning of the aperture F in the wall, and the renewal or repair of the heating pipes or flues connected therewith, by simply removing the box A, which operation is easily and readily accomplished after the detachment of the screw or bolt at the bottom of the box.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination of the box A and walllining E, the same being united by means of a slot and a projection fitted thereto, and a screw-bolt connection, substantially as specified.
