PAN FOR ICE BOXES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 896,619, dated January 2.2, 1889.
Application filed July 16, 1888. Serial No. 280,131. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES \V. SMITH, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drip-Pans for Ice-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved drip-pan for ice-boxes, the pan being of such col'lstruction that the level of the water in said drip-pan can be ascertained very readily, and in case the level of the water in said pan rises too high it will not wet the floor under the ice-box, but at the front of the same, where the floor can be easily mopped and dried. 1
The invention consists in a drippan provided with a tube projectin upward and outward from one side of the same, a cup on the end of said tube, the top edge of said cupbeing a short distance below the top edge of the drip-pan.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my improved drip-pan located under the ice-box. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, parts being broken out.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The drip-pan A is made of sheet metal in the usual manner, and from the bottom part of one side of the same the tube B projects upwardly and outwardly at a slight inclination, and on the outer or upper end of said tube B the cup (1 is secured, the top edge of which is a short distance below the top edge of the pan A.
A brace or bar, D, is secured to the pan A and cup 0, and serves to relieve the tube B of undue strains.
The length of the tube 13 must be such that when the drip-pan A is below an ice-box or refrigerator the cup 0 will project beyond the front of said ice-box, so that the level of the water can readily be seen.
The drip-water accumulates in the pan A, and as the level of the water rises in said pan A it also rises in the tube B, and finally in the cup (I. If by chance the drip-pan A has not been emptied and would overflow, the water can only flow over the sides of the cup G and wet the floor outside of the bottom of the ice-box, for the reason that the top edge of the cup 0 is a short distance below the top edge of the pan A, thus preventing the water from at any time flowing over the edges of the pan A and moistening the floor below the ice-box, and indicating that the drip-pan should be emptied.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a drip-pan,of atube projecting from one side of the same, and a cup on the end of said tube and connected with the drip-pan by said tube, the top of said cup being open and the top edge of the cup being some distance below the top edge of the drippan, substantially. as set forth.
