Abstract

This utility model discloses a ventilation grill that consists of a face cover (1)—a ventilation grill, with inclined fins (1 a), forming a grill, with deviation in the “parallel to flange” position, of a rectangular housing (2) with a flange (2 a) and a preventer (6), of an air flow control mechanism (FIG. 2) that includes a louver control wheel (3) that is connected via gear transmission with the louver control mechanism (4) that synchronizes the movement of the louvers (5), and has a louver control (and thus an air flow control) mechanism differing from a lever, and has a preventer against misalignment in the installation process, a simple design in production, and better functional properties in ranges of ventilation grills for suction or suction-and-exhaust ventilation with an air flow control mechanism.

Description

    RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • This application claims priority to Ukrainian Patent Application No. u200810712 filed Aug. 28, 2008, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • This utility model relates to ventilation. In particular, this utility model discloses a ventilation grill that is used as an element of a suction or a suction-and-exhaust ventilation system, when a need exists for regulating the flow of air through a ventilation grill.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • This utility model discloses a ventilation grill that consists of a rectangular housing with a flange, with elements, fabricated on the housing, for connection to the air duct, and with elements, fabricated on the flange, for attachment to the wall and for securing the ventilation grill; and in the center, louvers are connected to the housing for controlling the air flow; the louver control mechanism is fixed to the flange and is connected with the louvers, and the louver control mechanism itself is connected via gear transmission with the louver control wheel, therewith the ventilation grill is attached to the housing, and as a whole such a system provides convenient air flow control at the site where the ventilation grill is mounted.
  • The above and other features of the invention including various novel details of construction and combinations of parts, and other advantages, will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims. It will be understood that the particular method and device embodying the invention are shown by way of illustration and not as a limitation of the invention. The principles and features of this invention may be employed in various and numerous embodiments without departing from the scope of the invention.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • Ventilation in urban buildings, when put into operation, amounts to a natural suction-and-exhaust ventilation system. Air exchange in an apartment takes place in the following manner: foul air is removed directly from the areas of fouling in the apartment—from the kitchen, bathroom, and toilet, through venting apertures of the natural ventilation, which of course is designed and constructed as a system of vertical vent stacks. The intake of air takes place via window leakage or via open vent sashes through the creation of a pressure differential.
  • Natural ventilation is very susceptible to the influence of numerous natural factors, such as outside temperature, wind direction, wind strength, etc. The following may be the cause of the malfunction of natural ventilation: new designs of airtight windows that do not allow incoming air to enter the premises, errors in the design of vent stacks, and exhaust duct damage during the repair or reconstruction of premises, etcetera.
  • As technologies have developed, suction and suction-and-exhaust ventilation systems have gradually been improved. The basic principle of operation of such ventilation systems may be reviewed from the publication, GB, 828 966, A, 1960. Contemporary ventilation systems have not essentially altered their technological feasibility with regard to the principle described in the publication mentioned.
  • However, the use of such a principle has such a major deficiency as the identical air flow through the ventilation grill (slot) throughout the entire ventilation system, not accounting for the fact that the ventilation ducts are brought into different rooms. In other words, it is necessary to pass a smaller quantity of air into a room that faces north or east than into a room that faces south or west.
  • Ventilation grills equipped with air flow control elements are an all-purpose technical solution for air flow regulation.
  • The technical solution described in application PL, 362 947, A, published 2 May 2005 and depicted in FIG. 5, is the prototype of this utility model. The ventilation grill applied for in said publication consists of these principal elements:
      • housing with a flange that has an integrating element terminating in a connecting receptacle that is disposed on the opposite side of the flange,
      • an air flow regulating mechanism, and
      • a face cover—the ventilation grill.
  • The inadequate achievement of air flow control by means of a louver control lever that requires the fabrication of a slot in the face cover, which in its turn renders the design inconvenient for maintenance, and [the fact that] the described solution of the connecting receptacle does not eliminate the probability of misalignment during installation are a deficiency of said technical solution.
  • The basic objective set for the utility model was expanding the range of ventilation grills for suction or suction-and-exhaust ventilation with an air flow control mechanism and the creation of a louver (air flow) control mechanism differing from a lever, as well as eliminating the likelihood of misalignment during assembly, and at the same time to have a simple design in production.
  • The objective set is achieved as a result of the design of the ventilation grill (FIG. 1) and in particular of the air flow control element (FIG. 2) and the fixation element. The ventilation grill, according to this utility model, consists (FIGS. 3-5):
      • of a face cover (1)—a ventilation grill with inclined fins (1 a) forming the grill with bending into the “parallel to flange” position;
      • of a rectangular housing (2) with a flange (2 a) and a preventer (6);
      • of a mechanism for control of air flow (FIG. 2), including a louver control wheel (3) that is connected via gear transmission with the louver control mechanism (4) that synchronizes the movement of the louvers (5);
  • All the elements of the ventilation grill are integrated in the following manner: louvers 5 in the center of the housing for controlling the air flow are connected to rectangular housing 2 with flange 2 a, with elements, fabricated on the housing, for connection to the air duct which are disposed on the opposite side of flange 2 a, and with elements, fabricated on the flange, for attachment to the wall and for securing the ventilation grill (this is not an essential feature; nevertheless they are necessary for the installation of the ventilation grill); the louver control mechanism 4 is fixed in a slot in flange 2 a, and is inserted into a link with the levers of louvers 5 which are fabricated, in the preferred embodiment according to this utility model, on louvers 5, and the louver control mechanism 4 itself is connected via gear transmission with louver control wheel 3 (as depicted in FIG. 2), which is fixed at two points: to face cover 1, and to flange 2 a through the attachment of face cover 1 to flange 2 a. Thus, the integrated elements form the ventilation grill according to this utility model.
  • The fabrication of fins 1 a that form the grill, inclined with bending into the “parallel to flange” position, provides better control of air flow and prevents the noise of microvortices of air.
  • The fabrication of preventer 6 on rectangular housing 2 assures restriction of the mating of the ventilation channel with the ventilation grill, thereby preventing misalignment in the installation process.
  • It will be understood by a qualified specialist in this art that the number of louvers 5 will depend on the length of K and C (FIGS. 4 and 5) of the housing of the ventilation grill. I.e., the larger the length of C, the greater will be the number of louvers in the system.
  • Thus, the proposed ventilation grill, as described above, without limitations, differs from the lever mechanism of louver control (and therefore the air flow control mechanism), has a preventer against misalignment in the installation process, a simple design in production, and has better functional properties in ranges of ventilation grills for suction or suction-and-exhaust ventilation with an air flow control mechanism.
  • EXAMPLES
  • Overall the assembled ventilation grill corresponds to the general drawing shown in FIGS. 3-5.
  • Fabrication of the system: The ventilation grill differs in all the above-described embodiments only with respect to its overall dimensions. Typical dimensions (in millimeters) according to FIGS. 3-5 are given in the table below:

  • The term “fixation” in this application means the attachment of one element relative to another element with the possibility of the removal from attachment of one element relative to the other element by external action.
  • The term “link” or “linkage” in this application means the attachment of one element relative to another element with the formation of kinematic connections.

Claims (1)

1. A ventilation grill comprising:
a face cover (1) made as a ventilation grill, the ventilation grill face cover (1) comprising inclined fins (1 a) bent to a parallel to flange position;
a rectangular housing (2) with a flange (2 a) and a preventer (6) in the rectangular housing (2), and a mechanism for controlling an air flow, the air flow control mechanism comprising a louver control wheel (3) connected via a gear transmission with the louver control mechanism (4) that synchronizes the movement of louvers (5).
