Abstract
An adjustable barbecue grill island frame, able to accommodate components of various sizes, both in width and height, without the need for custom fabrication and or modification involving any cutting or alteration of the frames length. The adjustment of specific frame sections provides the proper ranges of alignment needed for the installation of island components.
Description
- A grill island (also referred to as an “outdoor Kitchen”) is a cabinet like structure that is accessorized with functional components such as grills, access doors and drawers, side burners, chillers and much more. Previously, grill island manufacturers had to design and build their grill islands to fit specific manufacturer's grills and components. These components were pre-selected in order to achieve the compatibility needed between the components and the fabricated mounting surfaces of the grill island. Deviation from the grill island manufacturers pre-selected components required custom fabrication by the grill island manufacturer for that particular size component.
- In contrast to the prior methods, the inventors have devised an adjustable solution for grill island framing. The adjustable barbecue grill island allows for the use of a plurality of island components without the need for cutting or custom fabrication of the grill island itself. Strategically oriented sections of the framing system in combination with a weld less framing material, adjusts both laterally and vertically to accommodate the variety of components and their various sizes. Components include but are not limited to drop in grills, access doors, drawer units, shelf units, side burners, refrigerators, etc. What makes this product unlike any on the market today is the orientation and position of key framing sections, in conjunction with a modular framing material resulting in an adjustable grill island frame. The adjustability feature of these key framing sections, eliminates the need for custom fabricated grill islands, when ad hoc components are selected in place of the grill island manufacturer's pre-selected components.

FIG. 1 shows a fully assembled adjustable barbecue grill island frame. It is the orientation and placement of sections 1.1-1.5 that allow for the proper movement of frame sections, resulting in the adjustment features of the grill island.FIG. 1 .1-1.4 exhibits the positioning and orientation of the adjustable frame sections. -
FIG. 2 illustrates a close-up view of a standard corner utilizing one angle bracket assembly. Loosening a bolt on the angle bracket assembly shown inFIG. 2 , allows for adjustment of the frame, while tightening the bolt will set the frame. The same principle is applied for both vertical and horizontal adjustment. For the adjustability function of the grill island to work properly, any adjustable framework cannot be impeded by the remainder of the supporting framework. The location and orientation of the numbered framing sections inFIG. 1 .1-1.5 permit the adjustments to the frame both vertically and horizontally.FIG. 1 .1 exhibits lateral sections that adjust vertically. These frames are designed to adjust to different heights required by various island components on the lower section of the island assembly. Similarly toFIG. 1 .1,FIG. 1 .4 exhibits lateral sections similar to section 1.1 by adjusting vertically. These frames are designed to adjust to different heights required by various island components on the upper section of the island assembly.FIG. 1 .5 exhibits a lateral fixed frame that separates the upper and lower adjustable sections. Each set of verticals,FIG. 1 .2 and 1.3 rely on this lateral in order to adjust laterally and independently of each other. -
FIG. 3 exhibits a front view of the adjustable grill island. -
FIG. 4 exhibits a side view of the adjustable grill island. The measurements are for reference purposes only and do not play an integral role in the claims listed under the claims section. -
FIG. 5 exhibits a top view of the adjustable grill island. - The measurements are for reference purposes only and do not play an integral role in claims listed under the claims section.
Claims (8)
1. A grill island that will accept a variety of grills and “island” components without custom fabrication; one size fits all.
2. A grill island that between claim 3 and claim 4 will accept a variety of barbecue grills and other grill island components.
3. A grill island that has adjustable supports in a lateral position that can adjust vertically to accommodate grill island components of various heights.
4. A grill island that has adjustable supports in a vertical position that can adjust laterally to accommodate grill island components of various widths.
5. A grill island in which framing sections are oriented in such a way that allows said movements in claim 3 and claim 4 .
6. A grill island in which framing sections are constructed of a material such that it allows for adjustment of vertical and horizontal frame sections without the need for cutting of the framing material.
7. A Grill island “component” is defined as “barbecue grill, side burner, access doors, draw units, fryers, ice bins, sinks or any accessory that can be installed or attached to a grill island that contributes to the primary purpose of the grill island.
8. A grill island in which the only limitation of adjustability is due to the physical limits of the outermost and/or supporting framework.
