Definitions
- the worker installs the first lap of siding then installs siding clips on top of that piece by simply hooking the clips on (approx. every four to six feet [shorter siding would only require two clips])
- the next piece of siding sets into the clips, which are manufactured for proper overlap specifications and spacing.
- the siding is then attached (nailed, screwed, etc.), then the exposed part of the clip is simply pulled down and breaks-away leaving nothing exposed. Then continue in same manner with next clips and a piece of lap siding on top.
- the “Break-away Siding Clips will be made of a very thin and brittle plastic for easy break-away. They are made reversible for quick installation.

Abstract
Ideally the “Break-away Siding Clips will be made of a very thin and brittle plastic for easy break-away. They are made reversible for quick installation. Please see drawings for details, size specifications, and application. The same type of clip is used for bevel cedar lap siding, but would not be reversible because the top of clip would have and angled opening to accommodate the bevel of the siding, only the bottom of the clip would break away, see drawing.
Description
- In residential or light commercial construction, the application of lap siding usually takes two or more installers. With the “Break-away Siding Clip” one person could install lap siding by their self, or the clip would enable two or more workers to install the lap siding much quicker and more efficiently.
