Definitions

  • This invention relates to improvements in apparatus for treating binding materials in the Claims.
  • dextrine especially for converting starch to dextrine, and for similar purposes, comprising a container surrounded on all sides by an insulating jacket consisting of walls arranged in a certain distance from the walls of the container.
  • the container is surrounded on all sides by an insulating jacket consisting of walls arranged at a certain distance from the walls of the container and thus creating an airbuffer.
  • This space so constructed between the contamer-walls and the walls of the jacket is preferably used for arranging the gears necessary for driving the usual mixing means coacting with the bottom of the container, which bottom is preferably trough-shaped.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide within this jacket suitable cooling and/or heating means.
  • Such cooling and/or heating means may be provided also within the jacket on the bottom and cover parts of the container.
  • a further object of the invention is to make the cover part of the container adjustable in height, preferably by means of screw shafts and nuts, which latter are supported on the frame parts of the container.
  • Figure 1 is a perspective view of an apparatus embodying a practical form of the invention, some parts being broken away.
  • Figure 2 is a side view, partly in cross section illustrating the mixing means coacting with the trough-shaped bottom.
  • Figure 3 is a front View of the parts of Figure 2.
  • the main portion of the apparatus comprises a container which is formed by the walls at, the metallic bottom 1) and the cover parts 0.
  • the apparatus can be built up of acid resistant steel or of wood or similar material which must be particularly dry, selected and both free from knots and of straight grain.
  • the bottom I which is preferably troughshaped, is provided with a further insulating jacket 1, which may be either loosely and removably placed adjacent to and below the bottom 1), or made an integral part of said bottom, as shown in Fig. 2, and furthermore the cover part 0 can also be formed by two walls including an insulating jacket m.
  • the insulating chambers 11 thus constructed can be used for housing the gears n, which are driven by means of a pulley o mounted in suitable bearings.
  • the gears n are mounted on shafts e transversely arranged at some distance above the bottom b and also supported in suitable bearings.
  • the insulating chambers d, f and m moreover can be used for arranging therein any cooling and/ or heating means q of known type.
  • the cover part c together with its insulating jacket m is preferably made adjustable in height.
  • the cover is carried by screw spindles 9 running in screw nuts provided with hand wheels h and supported on a part of the frame of the container, e. g. on a transversely mounted beam 1".
  • the cover is provided in, the usual manner with suitably arranged nozzles l for sprinkling or moistening the charge within the container.
  • the charge is introduced by any suitable and well known devices and is thoroughly mixed, whereby fresh surfaces are continually exposed.
  • the jets from the nozzles which project the liquid upon the charge until the highest degree of content is reached, or until all particles are dried, grilled or cooled.
  • the dimensions and the form of the container are so predetermined that the nozzles, when moistening the charge, do not directly encounter the container-walls.
  • the charge is discharged by suitably arranged openings in the container, and may be removed by means of transporting devices.
  • Apparatus for treating binding materials in the form of powder or grit to produce dextrine and other adhesives of vegetable origin as well as for treating other materials of similar form and for similar purposes comprising the combination of a container of substantially rectangular form having a bottom formed into a plurality of successive and parallel troughs, a plurality of mixing means within said container, said means being rotatable about horizontal axes and disposed adjacent said troughs and cooperating therewith, exterior walls individually spaced a certain distance outside all of the walls of the container and together forming an insulating jacket surrounding said container, the insulating space thus formed within the jacket constituting an air buffer.
  • Apparatus according to claim 1 provided with cooling and heating means for treating materials in the container, which cooling and heating means are located in the insulating space Within the jacket as well as the driving gears.
  • Apparatus according to claim 1 provided with a jacket beneath the troughs of the bottom and heating and cooling means disposed in said jacket for heating or cooling material on said bottom in said troughs.
  • Apparatus according to claim 1 provided with a vertically adjustable cover disposed between the main walls of the container.
  • Apparatus according to claim 1 provided with a vertically movable cover disposed between the main walls of the container, supports on said container, and rotatable and vertically disposed screw shafts connected to said cover and 'adjustably held by means engaging the same upon said supports, so that rotation of said shafts will raise or lower said cover in said container.
  • Apparatus according to claim 1 provided with a cover for the container and at least one nozzle in said cover for sprinkling and moistening materials intended to be treated within said container.
  • Apparatus according to claim 1 provided with a vertically adjustable cover disposed between the main walls of the container, and a wall spaced a certain distance above the cover so as to be adjustable therewith and forming an insulating jacket upon said cover.
  • Apparatus according to claim 1 provided with a vertically adjustable cover disposed between the main walls of the container, 2, wall spaced a certain distance above the cover so as to be adjustable therewith and forming an insulating jacket upon said cover, and one or more nozzles in said cover for sprinkling and moistening materials intended to be treated within said container.
  • Apparatus according to claim 1 provided with a vertically adjustable cover disposed between the main walls of the container, a Wall spaced a certain distance above the cover so as to be adjustable therewith and forming an insulating jacket upon said cover, and cooling and heating means disposed in the space formed by said jacket upon said cover for cooling or heating materials in the container below said cover.
  • Apparatus according to claim 1 provided with driving gears for said mixing means located in said insulating space.
