Abstract

402,601. Drying-apparatus. DREYER, A., 10, Am Kanal, Potsdam, and KUTZNER, F., 20, Paulsbornerstrasse, Halensee, Berlin. both in Germany. Dec. 20, 1932, No. 36139. Convention date, Jan 6. [Class 34 (ii).] In apparatus for the production of binding- materials, dressings, and the like, such as dextrines and glutens, including a device for mixing, direct spraying, drying, calcining, and cooling, the container consists of a substantially rectangular chamber surrounded by walls spaced therefrom and separating it on all sides from the outer atmosphere, the insulating space thus formed constituting an air buffer and a heating or cooling device and housing the gear wheels for the stirring mechanism inside the container, the arrangement being such that the insulating space also surrounds a bottom having a corrugated or ribbed surface so that heating or cooling may also be effected there as required. Preferably the cover of the container is also constructed with a double wall, is adjustable in height and supports a spraying device. In the apparatus illustrated in Fig. 1, the walls a, which may be of acid resistant steel or of wood which must be particularly dry, selected and free from knots, are surrounded by an insulating space d, formed by outer walls k, in which space are arranged the gears n which are driven by means of the pulley o and operate paddle gear (not shown) attached to the axles e. The metal bottom b, which has a corrugated or ribbed surface, is provided with an insulating jacket f which may be loosely and removably placed adjacent below the bottom, or made as an integral part therewith. The cover c, which is made with two walls enclosing an insulating space m, is made adjustable in height by means of screw spindles g running in screw nuts provided with hand wheels h and supported on a transverse beam. The cover also carries nozzles l for sprinkling the charge or for blowing hot or cold air for drying, heating or cooling the particles. The insulating spaces d, f and mare used for arranging heating or cooling means q.
