Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,538, dated February 19, 1878; application filed January 5, 1878.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HOSEA H. HUNTLEY, of Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Stove-Leg Attachments; and I do hereby declare'that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a bottom view of my stove-leg attachment. Fig. 2' is a longitudinal vertical section thereof. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of a modification thereof. Fig. 4is alongitudinal vertical section of the same. Fig. 5 represents a perspective view of the T-head with the plates A and D broken away; and Fig. 6 represents a perspective view, partly broken away under neath.

This invention has reference to improvements in means for securing legs to stoves, hollow ware, and other objects wherein it is desirable and advantageous to make them removable.

In illustrating my invention Ihave selected a stove, for the reasonthat in this connection I am able to fully elucidate its advantages; but I do not wish to be understood as confining myself to this special relation, as the device of which I am the inventor is equally applicable and useful when applied to various kinds of boilers, sugar-evaporators, and salt-pans, especially when they are of large size.

The nature of my invention consists in combining, with a T-catch upon a bottom plate of a stove, or upon the bottom of a boiler, saltpan, or kettle, a leg having a longitudinallyslotted horizontal branch, and a key adapted to lock the said branch and catch removably Eogether, as will be hereinafter more fully set ort In the annexed drawings, the letter A des ignates the bottom plate of a stove, having a T-lug cast or otherwise secured thereto at each position where aleg is designed to be attached. This lug is designated by the letter B, and may be cast in one and the same piece with the plate A, as shown in Fig. 2, or formed separately therefrom and the plate cast around it or the plate maybe provided with a pyramidal projection, a, having vertical grooves b b, in which the sections 0 c, as shown'in Figs. 3 and 4, may be secured, the whole forming a T-headed lug, similar in outline to the lug B.

D represents the horizontal portion of a stove-leg, having a longitudinal slot, 8, of the same length and breadth as the lug B, and upon its upper side a recess, 11, adapted to receive a stop, 6, upon the stove-plate in the same plane as the said lug B. This lug or stop 6 prevents the plate D from twisting, and thereby detaching the lug B from the bottom plate, and forms an extended bearing, in connection with the said lug, which renders a casual separation of the leg from the stove absolutely impossible. I

In attaching the leg to the stove, the part D of the former is passed onto the latter, with the stop e engaged in the recess d, and the lug B projecting through the slot 8.. The part D of the leg is then moved endwise until one end of the slot is engaged under one of the catches a of the said lug. This leaves an interval between the other catch a of the said lug and a raised shoulder, j, upon the said plate D, into which a wedge or key, 1, is inserted and pushed home. This key prevents the portion D of the stove-leg from endwise movement, and from becoming disengaged from the catch-lug B, thereby effectually locking the leg and stove-bottom together.

It is evident that the same device is applicable tosap-evaporators, kettles, and other like devices with equal advantage.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combinationof the plate A, provided with T-headed lug B and luge on its bottom, and the stove-leg, having a horizontal shank, D, provided with inclined recess 11, and the locking-pin 1, adapted to be secured under the T-headed lug, substantially as specified.
