Description
C. F. PENN.
COLLAPSIBLE CAMP STOVE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB-13.1917.
Patented Oct. 2, 1917.
l fl mania! %%m CHARLES F. PENN, OF DES MOINES, IOWA.
COLLAPSIBLE CAMP-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 2, 1917.
Application filed February 13, 1917. Serial No. 148,460.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. PENN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Camp-Stoves, of which the'following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in collapsible camp stoves, the primary object of the invention being to provide a generally improved portable camp stove of this class which will not only be exceedingly simple in construction, but one which may be readily folded to exceedingly small and convenient form for transportation or storage.
A further object is the provision of an im-' proved stove of this class which is particularly adapted to the requirements of camp life by reason of the provision of a single leg or tubular support adapted to be driven into the ground in suitable proximity to the fuel or fire, said leg or support forming a container or receptacle for a plurality of article supporting arms when the latter are not in use and being provided with an improved arm receiving and supporting head adapted to carry said article supporting arms in crossed or interlocking position when in use, said arms extending outwardly and radially from the leg or support in a horizontal position immediately over the fire to support the cooking utensils, or the articles to be cooked or prepared, such as boiled meats, toast, and the like.
With the above mentioned and other ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in one of its embodiments in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a perspective view of the improved camp stove set up or assembled for use.
Fig. 2, a detailed fragmentary view of the arm supporting head and interlocking cross portions of the article supporting arms carried thereby.
Fig. 3, a similar view taken at right angles to the position of the arms shown in Fig. 4.
Fig. 4, a detailed view, partly in section, of the improved camp stove in its folded or collapsed position, and illustrating the manner in which the arms are carried within the combined tubular arm supporting and containing member.
Fig. 5, a top plan view of the improved stove set up. i
Fig. 6, a detailed view of the female or key receiving arm.
Fig. 7, a detailed view of the male or key forming arm.
Fig. 8, a similar view of a modified form of male or key forming arm.
Similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings.
The improved camp stove comprises a main support or arm carrying member 1, and a plurality of article supporting arms or bars 2, and 3, as hereinafter described.
As a means of forming a suitable receptacle for receiving and containing the arms or bars 2, and 3, when collapsedrfor storage or transportation, as well as forming a suitable support for such arms when assembled and set up, the arm carrying member 1, is of tabular form and is provided with conical shaped pointed head 1, to adapt the device to be driven into the earth when the camp stove is set up as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and is provided with an open arm receiving head 1", where through the arms or bars 2, and 3, may be passed in collapsing or setting up the stove parts as hereinafter described.
As a convenient means of properly supporting and interlocking the arms or bars 2, and 3, with each other in eross-wise position and with the arm receiving head 1", the latter is preferably provided with a plurality of arm receiving openings consisting, in the present instance, of diametrically opposite arm receiving recesses 1, and diametrically opposite arm receiving openings 1.
As a means of securing the article supporting arms 2, and 3, in interlocked position, said arms are preferably made in the form of male and female members 2, and 3, respectively, said female bar 3, being provided with a median key-way 3, and eX- tending through the arm receiving recesses 1 and the male or key-membcr 2, is inserted through the arm receiving openings 1", and passes through the key-way 3, of the female member 3. The male or key-forming bar 2, as well as the female member 3, is bowed down intermediate its ends forming oppositely inclined portions 2, to have a wedge action in the cooperative relation with the key-way 3 of the female member. The female member 3, in the present instance, is provided with a loop head3 which fitsinto the open head 1", as shown most clearly in Fig. 2, of the drawings. a
I If desired, the male or key-forming memher 2, may comp'risea straight bar and be provided with an enlarged median portion 2 forming oppositely inclined portion 2*, as. shown in Fig. 80f the drawings.
From the foregoing description,-taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
Having thus described one of the embodiments of my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
p 1. A collapsiblecamp stove, comprising a tubular arm carrying member, and article supporting arms mounted within said memher when collapsed and interlocking therewith and with each other when set up."
2. A collapsible camp stove, comprising a pointed tubular arm carrying member, and article supporting arms mounted within said-member when collapsed and interlocking in crossed relation therewith when set A collapsible camp stove, comprising a pointed tubular support having an open head, and male and female article supporting arms extending through said open head in crossed interlocking relation to each other.
.4. A collapsible camp stove, comprising a pointed tubular support having an open head, and male and female article supporting arms extending transversely through said open head in crossed interlocking relation to each other. I i
5. A collapsible camp stove, comprising a tubular member provided at one end with diametrically opposite arm receiving openin'gs and recesses, and male and female cross arm-s mounted in said openings and recesses, .resp'ectively- 6. 'Aicollapsible camp stove, comprising a pointed tubular member provided. at one end with diametrically "opposite arm receiving openings and recesses, and male and female cross arms mounted in said openings and-recesses, respectively, in interlocking cross relation toeach other. i
.7. In a collapsible camp stove, a tubular member provided with an open head, and article supporting arms extending through Copies of this patent may be obtained for said open head, one of said armshaving a key-way and the other arm forming a keymember' seated in said key-way.
8; In a collapsible camp stove, a tubular member provided with an open head, and article supporting arms extending through said open head, one of the said arms having a median key-way and the other arm having wedge shapedinclines forming a key-member seated in and interlocking with said key-way.
9.-A collapsible camp stove, comprising a pointed tubular member having an open arm receiving head, and male and female cross arms normally carried within said tubular member and passing through and interlocking with each other and with said head when set up.
10. A collapsible camp stove, comprising a pointed tubular member having an open arm receiving head, and article supporting arms normally carried within said tubular member and passing through and interlockingwith said head when set up.
11. A collapsible camp stove, comprising a tubular support provided with transverse arm receiving openings, and male and female article supporting arms mounted in said openings and interlocking with eac other when set up.
, 12. A collapsible camp stove, comprising a tubular support provided with .arm receiving openings, and a, plurality of article supporting arms mounted in andinterlock ing with said openings whenset up and adapted to be carried within said" tubular support when collapsed.
13. A collapsible camp stove, comprising a pointed tubular; member having a head. provided'with arm receiving openings and recesses, an arm. extending through said re cesses and havinga key-way, and an arm forming a key-member extending through said openings and seated in said key-way. 14. A collapsible camp stove, comprising a pointed tubular member having an open head provided with arm receiving openings and recesses,an armextending through said recesses and having a median key-way, and an arm forming a key-member extending through said openings and seated in said median keyway.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
