Description
G. HAVELL. Glove-Fastening.
No. 200,058. r Patented Feb. 5,1878
WITNEESSES 1 tNVENTOR ATTORNEYS N. PETERS FHOT0-L|THOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. o c.
UNITED STATES PATENT DFFIGE.
GEORGE HAVELL, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO ROBERTS & HAVELL, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN GLOVE-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,058, dated February 5, 1878; application filed December 18, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEO. HAV'ELL, of Newark, in the county of Essex and inthe State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glove-Fasteners; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a fastener or clasp for closing and opening gloves, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I'will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my glovefastener. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. A A represent two spring-metal bars or plates, of suitable dimensions, joined or pivoted together at one end by a pivot-pin, a. These two plates or bars, being inserted in the slit of the glove, are attached to its edges by means of the holes I).
The bars A A are provided at a suitable distance from their outer ends with knobs or their equivalents B B, which may be made separate and fastened to said bars by riveting, soldering, or in any other suitable manner or they may be made as protuberances by pressing up part of the bars. Preferably I propose to form or attach these knobs upon projections dd on the inner edges of the bars or arms A A, as shown in the drawing. Forward of one projection d on one arm, and in rear of the opposite one, is a curved recess, w, for the ends of the opposite arms to enter when the fastening is closed. These knobs or protuberances B B are tobe placed in such positions that when the arms A A are brought together they will interlock and hold the glove closed, and yet be easily opened by the spring of the arms.
I do not broadly claim a glove-fastener composed of two hinged plates adaptedv for the sides of a glove-opening, and provided with a fastening device, as I am aware that such is not new.
I am also aware that the fastening-knobs are of themselves old but I am not aware that they have ever been used on a glove-fastening composed of two plates hinged at one end and free at the other.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Ina glove-fastening device consisting of two arms pivoted together at one end and free at the other end, the knobs or protuberances near the'free ends of said arms, for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination of the pivoted arms A A, having projections d d, curved recesses w 00, and the knobs B B on said projections, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of December, 1877.
GEORGE HAVELL.
