Description

ABM. KLEOKNER. Polish Rod Adjuster for Oil Wqll's.
No.199,8 09. "Paten ted' Jan. 29,1878.
(AZ J4. MW W 4 e% OGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, D 0.
UNW'ITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ASAPH M. KLEOKNER, OF KENDALL CREEK, PENNSYLVANIA. I
IMPROVEMENT IN POLISH-ROD ADJ USTERS FOR OIL-WELLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 199,809, dated January 29,1878; application filed September 14, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ASAPH M. KLEGKNER, of Kendall Creek, McKeancounty, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Polish-Rod Adjusters'for Oil- Wells; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and correct description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- v Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved adjuster, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line w w of Fig. 1.
The same letter marks the same part in both the figures.
The object of this invention is to provide an easy and convenient means for connecting rods of well-pumps to the walking-beam, so
as to be securely held, easily adjusted, and readily released; and it consists in providing the head to which the rod is to be attached with a groove for its reception, and with a clawhook or clamp having a threaded stem, on which a screw-nut is placed, for the purpose of clamping the rod to the head, all as hereinafter more particularly set forth.
In the drawing, H marks the head, provided with the journals J J, by which it is hung to the walking-beam, and a semicylindrical groove, for the receptionof the polish-rod R. The threaded stem S of a claw-hook, 0, passes through the head H, and is secured, by the nut N, on its rear side.
By this device the rod R is securely held in any desired position in the head, and can be adjusted. without difficulty. By unscrewing nut N the claw-hook G can be drawn out far enough to be turned over, so as to leave the polish-rod R entirely free.
In attaching the headHto the walkin g-beam,
the journals J are placed in grooves, inthe usual way, and secured by a piece of timber fastened over the top. When thus attached the device is ready for use.
' I am aware that a polish-rod fastener is not new in which a screw'threaded wedge is used, passing through the head and held by a nut, so as to clamp said rod into a recess of the head, and therefore do not claim the same.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1 d The adjuster for connecting pumping-rods to walking-beams, composed of the grooved head H and open claw-hook G, provided with threaded stem S and nut N, all constructed, arranged, and operating in the manner and for the purpose specified.
The above specification of my said invention signed and witnessed, at Kendall Creek, this 30th day of August, A. D. 1876.
A. M. KLEOKNER.
