2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in guy wire guards, and the object of the invention is to devise an improved guard which can be applied to the guy wire after the latter is in place 5 by inserting the wirethereinto and then moving the guard downwardly until it covers the anchor rod clamp. A further object is to provide a guard which will substantially encircle the guy wire leaving no sharp edges against l which a passerby might accidently strike.
A still further object is to construct a guard in which the lower end will be a tight i'lt over the anchor rod clamp thus preventing the guard rattling,
With the above objects in view my invention consists of a guard constructed Vand arranged all as hereinafter moreparticularly described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 represents an elevational View of a pole and guy wire therefor, with my guard applied to the latter.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged elevational view of my guard.
Fig. 3 is a further enlarged top end view of my device showing a means for securing it in its adjusted position upon a guy wire.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged elevational view of the lower end of my guard, showing the lower end portion of bell mouth form for the reception of the anchor rod clamp, and
Fig. 5 is also an enlarged vertical cross sectional view through the lower end of my guard, showing a modied form wherein spring friction members are furnished for engaging the anchor rod clamp.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the diierent views in the drawing.
My guard, as illustrated in Figure 3, is of substantially circular cross section in the form of a tube 1 having a slit 2 running from end to end thereof. The slit 2 is of slightly greater width than the diameter of the guy wire 3 over guy wire I furnish a plate and bolt assemblysuch as illustrated in Figure 3. This assembly comprises a draw plate 5 contained interiorly of the guard and having one edge bearing against the inner face of the guard and one face bearing which the guard is positioned so that the guard' against the guy wire. The plate is retained in position and engagement by the provision of a bolt 6 which extends through orifices in the plate and guard. n
In order that the lower end of the guard may be tightly held without the provision of any locking assembly such as illustrated in Figure 3, I in the type of guard illustrated in Figure 4 form the lower end of the guard with a bell mouth 7 which lits over the anchor rod clamp, in such a manner that when the guard ispressed downwardly the clamp becomes tightly engaged within the bell mouth, thus retaining the guard against side play upon the guy Wire.
In the modification illustrated in Figure 5, the lower end of the guard is provided interiorly with a plurality of spring members 8 which form sub- I stantially'the same function as the bell mouth 7 in that they engage the upper portion of the clamp connection and retain the guard against side play upon the guy wire.
By the formation of my guard of substantially circular cross section with a comparatively small slot therein, I have greatly improved this type of device as it substantially presents a smooth surface Without exposed edges and furthermore by the provision of means on the guard engaging the anchor rod clamp I have devised a construction wherein it is only necessary to secure the guard tothe guy wire by means of a single clamp in the vicinity of the upper end.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. -A guy wire guard for 'guy wires extending upwardly from a connection with a ground anchor rod or the like, comprising a tubular member having a slot extending from endy to end thereof yand through which the guy wire is insertable into the tubular member, and an inwardly tapering element carried upon the bottom of the tubular member and adapted to frictionally engage the connection between the guy wire and its anchorrod with a wedging action upon the tubular member being moved longitudinally on the guy wire.
2. A guy wire guard for guy wires extending upwardly from a connection with a ground anchor rod or the like, comprising a tubular member having a slot extending from end to end thereof and through which the guy wire is insertable into the tubular member, a bell mouthed member carried upon the bottom of the tubular member and adapted to frictionally engage the connection between the guy wire and its anchor rod.
