Application filed February 23, 1932. Serial No. 594,536. 7
This invention relates to improvements in Vmetal fence posts, and has for its object to.
provide a channel-shaped fence post, a cross section of which is U-shaped with laterally extending flanges.
It is particularly the object of this invention to provide a channel-shaped fence post' These and other advantages will appear.
from the following description taken in connection with the drawing.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a transverse'section showing a full size post with holes therein for receiving wire-holding clips.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of one of the clips.
Figure 3 is an end view of the clip shown in Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a section similar to Figure 1, showing the clip supporting a strand of wire on the post with one end of the clip unlooped around a strand of wire.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4 but with both ends of the clip looped around a strand of wire. I
This invention relates to-U-shaped posts, the closed part of which is indicated by the numeral 1 and is called the back part of the post. To each edge of the back part of the post is attached a side 2, which terminates in a flange 3. There are two of these flanges, one on each side, and they are in alignment with each other to provide bearing surfaces for strands of wire to be supported on the post.
Suitably provided in the sides of the post are holes 7. The holes are arranged in pairs, one in each side. to receive a clip 8,'such as that shown in Figures 2 and 3, for supporting flanges.
strands of wire on the flanges. The clip has on each end a loop 9, which extends around a strand of wire '10 for holding the wire against the flanges on one side of the post, as 7 shown in Figures 4 and 5. In Figure 4 only one end of the clip is looped around the strand of wire. The other end merely engages a flange on one side of the post.
In Figure 5 both endsof the clip are shown looped around the strand of wire. These L looped parts are on opposite sides of the post adjacent the flanges. The flanges prevent the longitudinal movement of the clip and the clip prevents the vertical movement of the strands of wire on the post. The holes 7 may be arranged at various points along the length ofthe post so that the strandsof wire may be supported thereon and the space be- 7 tween the strands regulated to suit the needs and conveniences. I 7
By means of the post here provided the strands of Wire maybe easily and readily attached to the post, and when attached are se-f curely held by means of the clips. When it becomes desirable toremove the strands'of wire from the postthe clips may be cut or the loops on the ends broken or bent.
I desire to comprehend within my inven- I tion such modifications as may be embraced the sides of the post by passing through the holes in said side portions and also engaging portions of the flanges of the post, and adaptedto hold a wire against portions of said 2. In a post. structure for supporting strands of wire. a post formed of astrip of metal and having aback part, sides and flanges on the sides, saidsides having holes within my claims and thescope of my inven- 3 therein, and Wire clips in the holes with their ends looped around the strands of Wire, said looped ends contacting side portions of said flanges to hold the Wire'strands in parallel relation to portions of the flanges.
3. A post provided with side portions and laterally extending flanges extending from said side portions, said'side portions having holes, clips passing through said holes, said clips having means for supporting Wires in line With'said flanges.
' In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
