V.This invention relates to a combination guy and guardfor poles, which serve as.
to form a part of the guy as a tension memf ber, whereby it is positively held in place.
he purpose of the invention is to dispense with the usual metal or wooden-guard which is secured to guy wires. The guards i cured in the earth and to which, according' are expensive and will slip and get out of position upon the wire. The present device obviates .,these disadvantages by formiii the guardv as a part -of the guy itself, the guard being insulated and under tension and thereby serving' as a bracing element in addition to its guarding properties.-
invention are obtained by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described below. It is to be understood that thel invention is not limited to the specific form thereof shown and described.
Of the accompanying drawings, #Figure 1l is a side elevation, partly in section, of a portion of a guy embodying the invention; Y Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 thereof; and
Figure 3 is a section ,on line 3 3 thereof. Referring to the drawings, 10v represents a guy wire such as commonly used, for example, on telegraph or other poles. v
The numeral 11 indicates an anchor seto prior practice, the lower end of guy wire 10. is secured.
l suitable material and formed to any suitable' shape, is adapted to be connected to the' of wire 10 may be loopedas at 16, insulator According to the present invention, the guard, indicated at l2, which may be of any lower end of wire 10 and to anchor 11 so that it becomes a tension member forming part of the guyz 1The guard 12 may consistv of a metallic s d of U-shape in section to provide spaced parallel legs or members andv having aligned sets of- bolt apertures 13, 13 in the opposite legs of the U adapted to receive a=bolt 14 on which is mounted an insulator `15, about which the jlower'end 15 having a peripheral groove 15 therein in which loo 16 .may seat; By vthis arrangement, t e effective length of guard 12 isz. serial no. 110,976.
To JOHN n. sarna, or AxnoN,
yis adjustable so that proper tension in guy A wire 10 vmay be obtained.
At' its lowery end .12 may have aligned bolt vapertures 17, 1,7 in the opposite legsof the U for receiving the guard orl telltale' a bolt 18 adapted to be inserted through and one, which will always be maintained in secure the lower proper position since it cannot slip -along g the Guy and become distorted. Guards used in etpast frequently become a menace instead of a safety device sincethey slip and are bentso as to presentv sharp edges likely to cut a person runnin into the same. e Th' The foregoing and other objects of the g 1S old type of guard` on a wire near a curb is also hkely to slip so as to project beyond vthe curb and cut tires of vehicles driven l up to the curb.
Modifications of the invention ma be resorted to without departing from thb spirit thereof or the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
\ 1. A guy including aguard or telltale incorporatedtherein as a tension member, saidguy comprising a cable looped at its lower end, an anchor, a guard formed with spaced members with aligned apertures inthe members at one end in the members at the other end, a bolt extending through the apertures at one end and a bolt extending-through one set of the apertures at the other end, and. an insulator and sets of aligned apertures i on -vone bolt, the cable being looped about the insulator andthe Aanchor beineP connect d t 'the'other bolt. ,V b' e o v 2. A guy including a guard or telltaleincorporated therein as a tension member, said guy comprising a cablelooped at its lower end, an anchor, members. with bers at each end, al bolt. extending4 through the apertures on one bolt, the cable being Vlooped about the insulatorand the ed to the otherv bolt.
a guard formed withv spaced cor orate sai therein as atension aligned apertures in the mem-V y at each end, and-an insulator.
anchor being connectv 3`. A gu including a vguard or tell-telelin-A ped' at. 'its 1 ion lower end, an anchor, aguard formed withv s aced members with aligned apertures in t e members at each end, and a bolt extend in" through the apertures at each end, the ca le being .secured to one bolt and the anchor to the other bolt. l
4. A guy including Aa. guard or telltale in'- corporated therein as a tension member, said guy comprising a cable looped at its' lower end, an anchor, and a guard adapted to have the looped end of the cable secured to .one end thereof and the anchor to the other end thereof.
5. A vguy including a guard or telltale in- -corporated therein as a4 tension member.
6. lA guard or telltale loruse on guys, said guard havin means at each end thereof for securing sai guard inl the'guy as a tension member thereof.
- 7. A combination guard and guy compris; ing a wire for attachment to a pole and an anchor inthe ground, the" device comprising a guard vof suricient size to be visible to form a telltale located between the wire and the anchorand, under tension so as to form a part of the guy.
,8. A combination guard and guy compris- 'ing a wire for attachment to a pole and an anchor in the ground, the device comprising a guard of sullicient size to be visible to form a telltale located between the wire and the anchor and under tension so as to form a part of the guy, and aninsulator between the pole andthe guard. l
