Description

Feb. 19, 1935.. A. DHoM AMMUNITION CASE Filed oct. 2, 1953 zwi Patented Feb.
sporting ammuniti case 01' anyjmetal or cylindre-conical 5 nating in `its lower PATE-Nr*oF-Fica Application ,october 2, 1933,'seria1 No. V691,854
i I nFranceOctober 8,1932, Y f tolaims. -(o1,rag.51,7) :The invention relatesto cases for all kinds of onV andconcernsV a new metal or` metal alloy,- of cylindrical form at its upper part, termi-V part by a sort ofV ogive having anaxial neckfor accomodating thecap; The
ase or ogival Dart ofthe case is surmounted by a cylindrical -reinforcementintendedto strengthen the case 1by binding and to carry a rim itat` the necessary'places the extraction.
forv
VIn Ya constructional modification, the body o Vthe case is ccnstitutedin `the `ordinary :manner b'y, a cardboard Atube,` isnsuitably engageda minating inia` cylindrical neck in whichis en` gaged the cap.
`over .the cardboard, tube 11s naed the@mani the lower part ofwhich spherical or oval case terrein, forcementV whichlpresses it on the spherical or oval case, whileengaging the neck of the` said The accompanyingdrawing shows in Figure '1 an axialsectlon" of anall-metal Vcase according to the invention, and in Eigure 2 a similar sec,-
t'ion of-a case made of cardboardand metal.
A rReferring to the cases shown `are sporting In Figure 1, the actual case is preferably made or steeI ana'in the a cylindrical part drawingfa Win be seen that Acartridge-ca'ses.-
1 extended by a spherical or oval partz of-'lesseri length, terminated byaneck This case is produced inafsingle piece in steel by known processes, and possessesa greater wall thickness in the ogival part which encloses the combustion chamber of the powder, whichv chamber has to resistconsiderable stresses. The ogival partk 2v is surmounted by a cylindricalreinforcement 4 Aprovided with the usual rim 5.v reinforcement 4surmounts of the union of the ogival drical part and at the place considerable stresses, and
the case inthe region part with the cy1in`` which issubjected to is forcibly fittedV on the case. This reinforcement which is closed in its lower part, is provided ing inwardly turned edges 6, which opening ts on the neck 3 of the case.
It will also lbe observed that the reinforcement 4 is mounted on a slightly contracted part 21 form an internal Vshoulder 22 as abutment for thewad.
ofthe ogival part 2so asV to The case has a variable thickness calculated so as to` provide the best conditions of resistanceto` the stresses develo The"prole of the lated to provide th .the said stresses.
ped by the firing of the shot. ogival part is likewise calcue optimumshape for resisting It -is likewiseV calculated to.
-resistance to the stresses i The'casei being entirely made of `metal and not 20 TheV with an opening hav`A Vdiameter equal to that bre of the cartridge.
intended to serve permitthe best propagation of ther i gnited gases n of ther-cap-a'nd thezintegrallzignition of all the elements'bf powder, Aandto avoid unburnt ma- ,teral'- faja, jV Iy' v -r v j-'Thecap `chamber is reinforc the fmassloil the body, thereby ensuring rm-A '\nss `,`irrespectiveof the number of re-capping `operatio ns. f i l Thf i base: orreinforcement' may be` assembled tothe case-by beading, screwing or -by any other4 10 j method. Thebody and the baseiarecalculated and treated inV such a Vmanner that the base, at the place" where it f is; assembled 'with .thebody, that is to say,` at one endin the yregionA of theA end offthep'owder chamber, andai: the other end in 'i5 the region `on the cap chamber, effects a Vreal binding of itstwo regions. LThe powder chamber is thus bound atboth end sgthereby. increasing its to which it issl'ibjected.Y
comprising anypart 'of cardboard, felt or the like, is ^indeforrnable, and is entirely'p'rotected from theaction of moisture; Y .j `Ihe danger of the rim being torn 01T -is eliminatedan d therim no longer bearsany stress'due 25V toftheifignitionof the'powdensnce it is completelyv` independent of the ,body of the casefand the .powder chamber.v :I
.- The Lbase andthe rim are .no longer inc'ontact with theu -gases :produced byfthe capuand fthe 30 powder, whereby rany danger of escape of the gases is eliminated.
' The device in question providesfor the cap a Vchamber Vwhich forms one piece with the body of the case and is reinforced by the binding of the 35 base. The cap is held perfectly, no escape of gasA is possibleV and re-capping is effected in a perfectv manner, since the cap chamber remains intact indefinitely.
The powder chamber has a very small diameter- 40 Y optimum result, and the volume of thepowder Y chamber is always constant, since the wad is al-Y ways stopped at the same place by the internal edandcomprised 5 shoulder provided on the case. The cases thus provided may be re-charged and re-capped a considerable number of times and practically cannot be worn out.l
It is obvious that this construction of cases is applicable to cases for other kinds of ammunition.
In Figure .2, at .l1 4is shown a cardboard tube suitably engaged byone of its ends on the spherical or oval case 2 terminating in a neck 3 in which the cap is placed.
Over the lower end of sequently presses the wall of the vsaid tube against the end of the case 2, while Aat 4theisame time it engages the neck 3 by a cylindrical part 6. Y Y
The case 2 constitutes thepowderichamber, and the cardboard tube'y will be employed exclusively to contain the charge of shot. The base l ensures the intimate fitting ofthe cardboard tube 11 with the metal lcaseand ensures :perf ect gas-tightness, Furthermore,.thefhead -4 presses the tube 11 on *the case :Zat lthe places which -are snbjectedtor maximum fatigue, and thel fitting obviatespthe disadvantages; which would` result "from the variations nrliameterand thickness ofthe cardboard.
j The .upper-:.endjof Athe chamber' formed 'bythe' case 2 maybe made thinner in order to effectits l the outer part of saidnipple.
