`DON D. OSBORNE, OF MAGNOLIA, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO VARREN HOWARD, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,096, dated January 8, 1878;
application filed August 17, 1877.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, DON D. OsBoRNE, of
the town of Magnolia, county of Rock, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spring Bed-Bottoms, which is fully set forth in the following speciication and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a top view of my improved bedbottom. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of my conical springs.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved spring bed-bottom that will be light, simple, and easy, readily kept clean, and that can be easily transported.
A are the conical springs, resting upon the smaller ends, and held by a stem entering the slats C, running longitudinally with the bedbottom, set at proper distances apart. a is the upper coil of said springs, and is made in a rectangular form, except that the end bars of the said upper coil are bent at the corners outward, which, when the conical springs are set upright in the slat C, are connected together by horizontal spiral springs B, arranged between them immediately over the slats, secured to each of the bent corners, and running longitudinally with the bed and the slats. At the end of each slat is a brace, D, to which the end spiral springs are attached by means of rods c c, said brace being held in its place by means of loop E dropping over the end of the slats G. l
The conical springs are not placed opposite each other on adjoining slats, but opposite the spaces between springs, and the oblong rectangular tops stand longitudinally with the bed and slats.
The slats C rest upon a cross-Slat at each end of the bed, to which they are firmly secured, and the cross-slats rest upon the cleats on the inside of the bedstead.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The rectangular top spiral springs A, connected together longitudinally by means of the horizontal spiral springs B, in combination with slats O of a bed-bottom, substantially as herein shown and described.
DON D. OSBORNE.
