Description

lll
INl/ENTOR- 5, 1935, A ANISH LADYS HAND BAG Filed July 16l 1934 Patented Feb. 5, 1935V STATES La-6c LADYS BAG Adolph Anish,lNew York, N. Y., assignor to M.
Dalsheim 8; Co. Inc., New York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application July 16, 1934, Serial No. 735,376 2`Claims. (Cl. 15o- 28) This invention relates to ladies hand bags and comprehends an improved bag having a reversible outer covering which is detachably connected with the bag body, whereby vit may be either reversely associated therewith, completely removed therefrom or replaced by other coverings similar thereto in order to thereby permit of variations in the color scheme or `general appearance of the bag according to the desires of the user.
The invention further provides a hand bag of the indicated character which is extremely simple in its construction and mode of use, which may be economically produced and which is highly attractive in appearance.
With the above recited and other more detailed objects in view, reference is now made to the following specication and accompanying drawing in which there has been disclosed, by way of example, a preferred embodiment of the invention, while the appended claims cover variations and modifications which fall wit-hin the scope of the invention.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a ladys hand bag constructed in accordance with the present inventionand showing the outer covering member applied to the bag body.
Fig. 2 is a perspectiveview of the outer cover-.- ing removed from the bag body.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the bag body with the outer covering removed therefrom and illustrating the outer coveringv attaching aps upturned.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken approximately on a plane indicated by the line 4 4 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, 5 designates the body of a hand bag which is of the usual pouch type having frame jaws 6 40 Vand v'I which are pivotally connected as at 8 to provide the mouth of the body which may be opened and closed and which are retained in their closed relation by any suitable form of latch 9. Attached to the upper edge of the frame jaws and constituting a part of the bag body are a pair of normally downturned aps 10 which lie respectively on opposite sides of thebag body.
The hand bag further includes an outer covering member designated generally by the reference char` :ter ll'which is preferably made up of two or more plies of material 12 and 13 which materials are of a different color, shade or character and which member 11 is of a size and shape to extend around and enclose the sidesand bottom of the bag body with the opposite ends 14 and 15 positioned beneath the flaps 10 v In order to provide means for connecting the covering member 11 with the bag body, the under- 5 sides of the flaps 10 are provided with the headed elements 16 of snap fasteners, while the opposite ends 14 and 15 of the outer covering member 11 are provided on the opposite sides thereof with p the socketed elements 17 and 18 of snap fasteners. 10
'I'his permits of the complete separation of the covering member 11 from the bag body 5 so that the said bag body may be worn alone or permits the covering member to be reversely connected in' covering relation with the bag body to dispose either/of the plies 12 or 13 thereof outwardly. y It is also obvious that within the scope of the invention a number of covering members 11 may be furnished with a single bag body for selective use therewith so as to aiord awide variety of 20 color schemes for the same bag body.
What is claimed is: y
1. A ladys hand bag including a pair of normally downturned flaps swingably connected at their upper edgesv to the upper edge of and lying o'n opposite sides of said body, a separate reversible outer covering member therefor, and interengageable separable fastening elements provided respectively on the undersides of said flaps and on the oppositesides of the opposite ends of said coveringmember, by means of which elements the covering member may be optionally associated with the bag body in covering relation thereto with either side of the covering memberv disposed outwardly and by means of which elements the flaps are held in their downturned position by the covering member.
2. A ladys hand bag including a body having a pair of normallyv downturned aps swingably connected at their upper edges to the upper edge of and lying respectively on opposite sides of the body, aseparate reversible outer covering member therefor having opposite surfaces of relatively different characters and interengageable separable fastening elements provided respectively on 45 the undersides of said aps and on the opposite sides of the opposite ends of said covering member to provide a connection between the flaps extending around the bag body with either of the opposite surfaces of the covering member dis- 50 posed outwardly.
