UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE A. TRIMBLE, OF CROWN POINT, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 198,826, dated January 1, 1878; application filed December 8, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. TRIMIBLE, of Crown Point, inthe county of Essex and State of New York, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Folding Tables, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a side View of my improved table, partly in section through the line :10 a", Fig.
7 2. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the samefolded.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved folding table, which shall be so constructed as to enable the loose motion of the joints to be taken up, so that it will be held firmly and securely, and at the same time shall be simple in construction and convenient in use.
The invention consists in the combination of the curved bars, the hook-bolts, and the thumb-nuts with the top, the legs, and the cross-bars of the table, as hereinafter fully deof which is vertical, and its end is attached to the cross-barB. The other arm of the bar E is curved into the arc of a quarter of a circle, and its end is attached to the under side of the table-top A. F F are hook-bolts, the hooks of which are hooked aroimd the curved arms of the bars E. l The hook-bolts F pass through the, crossbars D of the legs 0, and have thumb-nuts f screwed upon their lower ends.
With this construction, by loosening the thumb-nuts f, the pairs of legs 0 can be readily folded down against the lower side of the table-top A as shown in Fig. 2, or opened out into a position at right angles with said table-top, to support it, as shown in Fig. l and by tightening the thumb-nutsf the said legs will be firmly and securely locked in either position.
This construction prevents all play or looseness at the joints when the legs are extended a for use, and produces a firm and rigid table.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the curved bars E, the hook-bolts F, and the thumb-nuts f with the top A, the legs 0, and the cross-bars B D of the table, substantially as herein shown and described.
GEORGE A. TRIMBLE.
