Description

M. ROSENSTOGKQ Panniers.
No. 197,409. Patented Nov. 20, I877.
min 2.! ea
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORITZ ROSENSTOOK, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN PANIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,409, dated November 20, 1877; application filed February 20, 1877. p
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Monrrz RosENsTocK,
of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paniers or strips, and having suitable fastenings in front,
to adapt them to be adjusted to the figure of p the wearer.
My invention consists, secondly, in securing the lower belt to the upper belt by means of' vertical bands or strips having adjustable lower ends, as hereinafter described.
My invention consists, thirdly, inproviding the front pieces with flaps, which are secured together by means of hooks and eyelets, so as to render the panier or bustle firm, and not liable to get out of shape.
The hooks being applied by means of eyelets, the ordinary lacing can be used when desired.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved panier or bustle. Fig. 2 is a front view of portions of the flaps, showing my mode of securing the flaps together. Fig. 3 is a view of the end of a spring with my improved horseshoe guard or covering applied. p
A A represent, strips cut from piece-goods. These strips are provided with metal eyelets a a, through which steel springs e are passed. The springs are secured to the pieces by means of button clasps d. c are metal horseshoe guards or coverings attached to the ends of the springs. The insides of the strips A are lined, so as to form pockets 1) for the reception of the ends of the springs. f f are flaps secured to the side pieces A A, and held together by hooks g and eyelets g.
The panier or bustle is provided with bands or belts h i, by which it is secured to the person of the wearer. From the band 71. depend strips j, which are provided with loops k at their lower'ends, adapted to engage with the band i, so as to render them adjustable on the latter.
The provision of hooks and eyelets forattachment of the flaps f f permits of the ordinary strengtheningsteel being dispensed with, as where laces are usedthe steel is a necessity, for without such a support the flaps would, as ordinarily constructed, be liable to get out of shape from the flimsiness of the fastening.
The hooks g are secured by eyelets, so as to admit of lacing through them, if deemed desirable.
The mode of securing the p. nier or bustle by means of a skeleton apron, such as described, will give to the wearer greater freedom of action. The panier will be found airy and light. It is adjustable to suit different forms.
The horseshoe metal guards or tips for the steel springs e prevent the cutting action of the latter.
It will be seen that the springs are secured in such a manner as to be removable, when desired, without any cutting or ripping of the body-pieces. I
' Having. thus described myinvention, the following is what -I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A panier or bustle having the bands or belts h c', secured together by means of vertical strips, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with the bands It 2', the
vertical strips j it, having their upper ends secured permanently to the upper band, and their lower ends formed with loops adjustable on the lower band, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A panier or bustle having flaps f f, provided with hooks 9, having eyeletcd heads and eyelets g, for rigidly securing said flaps together, as and for the purpose set forth.
4. Apanier or bustle consisting of two belts, h 6, pieces A, having eyelets a, springs e, flaps f, and hooks and eyes for securing said flaps together, as and for the purpose set forth.
onrrz ROSENSTOOK.
