OBTURATING' AND DISTRIBUTING APPARATUS FOR FLUIDS Filed July 25, 1929 lva/4771K Patented Aug. 7, 1934 UNITED STATES OBTURATING AND DISTRIBUTING APPARA- TUS FOR FLUIDS Emile Eugene Dou, Neuilly, France Application July 25, 1929, Serial No. 381,056 In France July 27, 1928 1 Claim;
The present invention has for object an obturating and distributing apparatus for fluids, having a central tube provided with one or more side openings putting the fluid inlet in communication with the outflow piping.
The central distributing tube is actuated from a distance by a flexible control, or in any other manner.
Used for feeding fuel to anengine, or for a similar purpose, the device in accordance with the invention allows, by a judicious arrangement of the openings relatively to closing or control members, to obtain either the closing of the fuel inlet, or the feeding of fuel, with a reserve in a tank, or
the total emptying of the tank, whether the distribution of fuel is effected by gravity or by suction.
In the accompanying drawing there is illustrated in longitudinal section a device operating by gravity for feeding fuel to an internal combustion engine such as a motor car, airplane or like engine, the device allowing an automatic interruption of the ignition.
As shown, the invention consists in that the 23 and a recessed conical part 24 to which is sol dered the lower end of the central distributing tube 25. This tube passes through the cork washers 26, the central orifice of which is larger than the said tube, and an openwork stay-member 27 acts to hold in position the upper cork Washers 26 and the metallic washers 22 and cork washers 22' forming thestufling box.
In the tube 25 are provided, at suitable intervals, groups of apertures 28 and 28 respectively.
The operation is as follows:
When the rod 21 is completely pulled downwards to the position shown, the shoulder 23 being in contact with the adjacent metallic washer 22 of the stufling-box, the liquid axially enters through the upper end of the tube 25 arranged at a certain level in the tank, then flows through apertures 28', between the tube 25 and the wall of the upper chamber of the cock body and the washers 26, and at the same time flows through the apertures 28.
when the level of the liquid comes to the upper end of the tube, the discharge stops.
By slightly raising the tube 25, the apertures 28 come out from the cock body or casing and the full discharge takes place through the said apertures. V
By further raising the tube 25, the conical part 24 of the part 21, to which is soldered the tube 25, enters the central orifice of the washers 26, thus ensuring complete obturation. 7
An operating member 29 is operably connected as by a Bowden cable 30 with the rod 21 to shift the latter as desired. 05
It is to be understood that the form of construction which has been described has been given by way of example only.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
In an obturating and distributing apparatus for liquids a casing comprising an inlet and. adapted to be vertically connected to the lower part of a tank and a fluid outlet pipe, an upper group of cork washers and a lower group of cork washers, the said groups of cork washers being arranged in the said casing, a tube arranged vertically and open in its'upper partandadapted to penetrate into a tank through the inlet end of the I casing, a rod fixed at the lower part of the said tube and passing in a tight manner. through the, lower group of the cork washers, means connected to the free end of the rod for imparting thereto axial movements ofv translation, a shoulderon the upper part of the-said rod, the said shoulder being provided with a conical portion for bearing against the upper group of the cork washers, orifices in said tube distributed in groups so as to be adapted to empty the tank either completely or to the level of thefree end of the tube, said conical portion adapted when bearing against the upper group of cork washers, to interrupt the communication between the tank and the fluid outlet pipe.
