Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,264, dated October 16, 1877; application filed July 10, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARAH L. STUART, of Greenfield, in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ghurns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, whichform part of this specification. I
My invention relates to churns and it consists in combining, with a churn and its dasher-rod, a base, a frame carrying the operatinglever, pulleys, and cord, and rings and cords for clamping the churn between the base and frame, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents aperspective view of my invention.
A represents the base upon which the churn B is placed. On top of this churn is a framework,-consisting of a base or bottom board, 0, with two side pieces, C G, inclining inward andupward, and suitably connected and braced.
This frame is secured on top of the churn by being fastened to the base A by cords a a, passed through rings 1) b, fastened in the frame and base, substantially as shown.
In the top of theframe thus constructed and secured, is pivoted a lever, D, to which the ends of a cord, d, are fastened, at equal distances from the fulcrum of the lever. The center of the cord (Z is passed through a hole in the dasher-stem E and the two parts wound, in opposite directions, one or more times around said stem, after which the ends are passed around pulleys G G, mounted in slots in the side pieces 0 O, and then run up to the operating-lever D, and there secured. To the lower end of the stem E, within the churn, is attached the dasher H, of any suitable construction. By working the lever D up and down, the stem and dasher are rotated first in one direction and then in the other, as is readily seen.
' This churn-power is simple and cheap, easily operated, and not liable to get out of order.
The base A and frame 0 0 form a clamp, in which the churn is held or clamped by the cords (l, and this device may be applied to a churn of any size, shape, or form.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the churnB and dasher-rod E, of the base A, the frame 0, carrying the operating-lever, pulleys, and cord, the rings 1) b, and the cord a, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
