UNrTED STATES PATENT Orrrcn,
JEREMIAH KELLER, OF SANDUSKY, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ED\VARD J. CABLE, OF SAME PLACE.
CHURN.v
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 359,978, dated March 22, 1887.
Application tiled December 23, 1886. Serial No. QQQAOI.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that .l, JEREMIAH KELLER, of Sandusk y, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ghurns; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the are companying drawings, which form apart of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in churns.
The invention consists in the peculiar mechanism employed forpartially rotating parallel dashers in opposite directions, and in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and con1hination of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved churn. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the operating parts removed from the churn-body.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents a churn-body provided with a removable top or cover, B, and arranged to he rigidly secured upon such churn, when in use, by books or other suitable devices (not shown) for the purpose.
C are two vertical and parallel shafts or dash-rods,properlyjournaled through the head B, their upper ends finding hearings in the standards I), rising from the cover, and which also carry the actuatingdever E,fulcrnmed between their upper ends, as shown.
F is a how rigidly secured to the lever E, and to each end of this how is secured one end of two flexible straps, G, the opposite endsof such straps being rigidly secured to the vertical shafts O.
H is another flexible strap, the ends of which are secured to the vertical shaft-s. These flexi- (No model) hie straps are so connected to the shafts or dashrods that as thelever E is oscillated such shafts are compelled to partially rotate in their hearings, the strap H being wound first upon one shaft and then upon the other, and aiding the straps G in rotatin the said shafts, as will be readily understood. To the lower ends of the shafts Care secured the perforated heaters or dash-plates I.
In practice, the parts being arranged to opcrate substantially in the manner shown, it will he found that in the oscillation of/the lever the heaters will be partially rotated in opposite directions, describing, as near as can he, in their movement a semicircle, and that this will necessarily continually agitate the churning, forcing the cream through the perforations and eii'ectually separating the fatty globules from the milk.
I am aware of the patent issued to I. Van Gorder, June 27, 1832, and make no claim to the construction shown therein as forming part of my invention, but attach importance to my independent strap H, which aids the straps G in rotating the shafts O.
W'ha-t I claim as my invention is- The combination, with the parallel vertical shafts carrying heaters, of the standards D, lever E, fulcrumed thereon, how F on said le ver, the flexible strap H, having its ends secured to said shafts, and the flexible straps G, each having one end connected to said how, and the opposite ends attached one to each of said shaft-s, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
' JE R-EMIAH KELLER.
