This invention relates to garbage receptacles such as are adapted to be used in connection with sinks and one of the particular features of the invention is the supporting means or method of mounting such receptacles.

The objects of this invention are to provide an improved garbage receptacle with means for mounting or supporting the same beneath a sink, shelf or similar projection; to provide a garpage receptacle having a novel cover arrangement; to provide an adjustable post or support for mounting a garbage receptacle or container under a sink, tablaor the like; and to provide such other novel features and advantages as will appear from the following description.

It has heretofore been proposed to mount garbags receptacles or containers directly on sinks or their supporting legs but such arrangements have not been satisfactory on account of the variation sinks and the dimculty of installing such containers. In order to provide means whereby containers may be readily mounted or placed in position I have arranged an adjustable support which is readily applicable to sinks or drain boards of various heights from the door. In the particular form shown in the drawing 5 indicates a foot or base which is preferably pro vided with a pad 6 of rubber, felt or the like, for engagement with the floor. The base has an up- A wardly projecting stem which fits into a pipe or tube '7 and is secured thereto in any convenient manner as by means of a pin 8. The upper end of the pipe is threaded to receive a correspondingly threaded tubular screw 9. This screw has a an enlarged head 10 for convenience in turning the same and is preferably provided with a lock nut 11 which is shaped so that it may be conveniently turned by hand. A rod 12 fits freely within the tube or screw 9 and is held in position by a set-screw 13. cut into the same a sufiicient distance to hold the supporting post in position.

A can or receptacle 17 is provided with a bracket 18 having a hub 19 which engages with the rod 12 and rotates thereon. The bracket is held in adjusted position by means of a collar 20 which is provided with a set-screw 21 for fastening it to the rod. Washers 22 may be interposed between the hub 19 and the coliar to facilitate the turning of the bracket and reduce the friction. The receptacle 1'! is provided with a removable garbage pail 23 and has a removable funnel 24 for directing the garbage or other material into the pail.

The receptacle 1'? is provided with a cover 25 which is preferably arranged so that it remains in fixed position while the receptacle may be swung out for filling. This cover has a hub 26 which is held in adjusted position by a set-screw 27. A lug or detent 28 extends downwardly from the cover and is adapted to engage with a recess 29 the upper face of the bracket 18 to hold the receptacle in position below the cover or so that the cover will be in alignment with the top of the receptacie when the receptacle is swung back under the sink.

My improved post is so constructed that it may be readily installed under drainage boards or tables of various heights. In order to do this the set-screw 13 is loosened and the rod 12 shoved up until the point 15 engages with the lower surface of the board. The set-screw 13 is then tightened and the tubular screw 9 is then turned by means of the hand piece 10 to force the point 15 against the board and when sufficient pressure is applied to hold the post rigidly in position, the lock nut 11 is turned to fasten the screw in adjusted position. The cover 25 may then be adjusted up or down in accordance with the length of the flange or skirt 30 or so that the receptacle will readily clear the same and yet come in close contact with the cover. While the cover will ordinarily remain in fixed position, it may be readily swung outwardly as for cleaning by loosening the set-screw 27.

While I have shown a preferred type of adjustable post it will be apparent that changes may be made in the particular construction thereof without departing from its useful functions and it will also be noted that changes may be made in the construction or arrangement of the container and coacting members in order to adapt the same for different conditions or for receiving different materials and therefore I do not wish to be limited to the particular construction or a tubular screw engaging with said threaded upper end, a lock nut for said screw, a rod engaging with the screw, a set-screw for holding the rod in adjusted position in the screw, and a hardened point at the upper end of said rod.
