Application May 14, 1946,
1 Claim. (o1.155 1ss) This invention relates to a tray, and more particularly to a tray having a refuse receptacle associated therewith adapted to be utilized in association with a chiropodists or podiatrists chair.
A primary object of this invention is the pro vision of an improved tray adapted to be attached adjacent the foot rest of a chiropodists chair to facilitate the disposal of waste material and refuse utilized during the treatment of the feet.
An additional object of the invention is the provision of such a device providing improved sanitation and ease and efficiency in the disposal of such waste matter.
A further object of the invention is the provision of such a device which may be readily associated with and attached to such a chair, and provided with means whereby the relative position thereof with respect to the chair may be varied at the will of the operator.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of such a device which is sturdy and durable in construction, reliable and. efficient in operation, and relatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture and assemble.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds, and shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of this inventive concept.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of one form of device embodying features of the instantinvention, shown in position on a chiropodists chair, the latter being indicated in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is an enlarged side view of the device shown in Figure 1, particularly in elevation, and partially in section.
Figure 3 is an enlarged top plan view of the supporting bracket for the device.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the device on a reduced scale, certain concealed portions of the apparatus being indicated in dotted lines.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Having reference now to the drawings, there is diagrammatically indicated at II) a chiropodists chair provided with a movable foot rest I l. The foot rest I l is mounted on a bifurcated. member I2 provided with a transverse flat base portion i3. The tray of the instant invention, generally indicated at I4, includes a flat plate l5 of generally rectangular configuration to the under 2 side of which is attached a bracket it including a U-shaped supporting member I! adapted to surround the bar i3 of the chair. The bracket l6 includes, as best shown in Figure 4, an extending tongue is having a slotted aperture I9 therein. A screw 20 secured to the bottom of the tray I 5 extends through the slot l9 and is provided with a wing nut, which, when tightened, securely fastens the tray IE to the bracket. Obviously, upon loosening the wing nut 2|, the tray may be moved longitudinally, or rotated, to vary the position thereof, within the limits defined by the slot [9. Bolts 23 provided with nuts 24 are provided to secure the clamping bracket I! about the member l3.
Referring back now to the tray [5, the device is provided along one side thereof with a flange 25, the flange being substantially perpendicular to the member l3 when the device is aligned with the slot l9 along the outer end thereof with a second flange 26 and a third flange 29 opposite flange 25. No flange is provided on the inner edge of the device which is the. side opposite the flange 26. An aperture is cut in a corner of the device adjacent the juncture of the flanges .26 and 29, and provided with a depending pe'ripheral flange 21 having internal threads thereon. A cylindrical receptacle 28 externally threaded, at its upper peripheral rim, is adapted to engage the corresponding threads of the flange 21.
From the foregoing the operation of the device should now be readily understandable. In use, the tray I4 is attached to the member l3 of the foot rest in the manner previously described by means of the depending bracket l1, and bolts 23 and nut 24. Suitable adjustment is made as to the angle of position of the tray by loosening the wing nut 2| on the bolt 20, and after the tray is adjusted, any waste material or debris removed from the feet of the patient is adapted to fall onto the tray surface i5. Due to the open sides of the device, such refuse may be readily swept into the receptacle 28, and, when desired, the receptacle 28 may be removed for emptying and disposal of the refuse.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided a device which accomplishes all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be 'made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all 3 4 matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illus- REFERENCES CITED i i 'g g f not in limiting sense The following references are of record in the ill of this a ent: In a tray adapted for use with the foot rest of a e p t chiropodist's chair and including means detach- 5 UNITED STATES PATENTS able mounting said tray on said foot restin for- Number Name Date wardly subjacent relation thereto, the improv 1,372,946 Erickson Mar. 29, 1921 ment omprising a plane s rface on s id ray. 1,732,131 Mahafi-ey a t, 15, 1921 said surfa0e beingf0rmed with a. waste disp s 2,112,6693 I-Ialas l Mar. 29, 1938 aperture therein; a depending annular flange 10 2 2 7,361 -H'a1ey Dec. 30, 1941 integral with said tray and surrounding said aperture, a waste receptacle for said tray, said" FOREIGN PATENTS receptacle being formed with an open top, and ,Number Country Date said flange and said top including complementary 139,951 Switzerland May 15, 1930 means for readily detachably connecting said.re .i 15 1. 157,?76 Switzerland Oct. 15, 1932 cepta-ble to said flange below said aperture. i V
