This invention relates to grinding and packing devices.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a grinding and packing device for home use and especially adapted to grind and pack horse-radish and other materials.
A further object of this invention is to provide means for grinding and packing material in one operation without having to transfer the material from one container to another.
A further object of this invention is to provide means for packing in various sized jars.
A further object of this invention is. to provide a device which can be used in combination with any ordinary grinder.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a grinding and packing device adapted for canning tomato juice.
The usual practice in grinding and packing horse-radish or other pungent material has been to grind the material into an open pan and then pack into jars. In this invention there is provided a device making it possible to grind and pack the material in one operation. By doing this it will be readily seen that all juices are retained. This method allows a faster and cleaner way of handling the ground material. It will also be seen that with the exception of the hopper of the grinder there will be no place for fumes to escape. Thus the air will be relatively clear during the operation.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein. disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed,
without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device with parts broken away.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the device with parts broken away.
Figure 3 shows a screen for use in connection with the device.
Figure 4 is a cross section view or" an interchangeable ring member.
By referring to the drawing it will be seen that there is provided a body portion I provided 5 with legs 2 which rest upon a base member 3.
This body portion I is provided with a sleeve member 4 adapted to receive an ordinary, grinder 5. This sleeve member 4 is provided with a set screw 6 in order to hold the grinder 5 in position. The body portion I has at the bottom 5 an interchangeable ring member I. This interchangeable ring member I is threaded for the reception of a jar I4. 8 is an interchangeable ring member of a different size. It will be seen that there is provided a rubber washer I5 10- 10 cated between the ring member 'I and the body portion I. This body portion I is provided at the top with an upwardly extended flange 9 having a central opening through which a tamper I9 slides. It will be seen that this tamper 15 II] may be held in any desired position by means of a cam II. This tamper I0 is for use in packing the. material into the jars after it has been ground and in addition can be used to press juice from tomato pulp or the like when used 20 in connection with a screen l2, which can be inserted in the; lower part of the body portion at a point I3.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, a body 25 portion having a central opening, legs on. said body portion, a base member for said legs, a sleeve formed on said body portion for the reception of a grinder, means for securing said grinder to said sleeve, means for holding a jar 30 underneath said body portion, and means for packing material ground by said grinder in said ar.
2. In a device of the class described, a body portion having a central opening, a pair of op- 35 positely disposed legs on said body portion, a base member for said legs, a sleeve formed on said body portion for the reception of a grinder, means for securing said grinder to said sleeve, means for holding jars having various sized 4Q tops underneath said body portion, and means for packing ground material ground by said grinder in said jar.
3. In a device of the class described, a body portion having a central opening, a pair of op- 5 positely disposed legs on said body portion, a base member for said legs, a sleeve formed on said body portion for the reception of a grinder, means for securing said grinder to said sleeve, an interchangeable ring member functioning 50 with the lower central opening in said body portion for the purpose of supporting jars having various sized tops, and means for packing ground material ground by said grinder in said Jan with the lower central opening in said body portion for the purpose of supporting jars having various sized tops, 2. rubber washer between said interchangeable ring member and said body portion, and a tamper for packing ground material ground by said grinder in said jar substantially 5 V as described for the purpose set forth.
