Description
G. W. BROWN. Barrel-Holder and Skid.
Paterited 0m. 9, 1877.
ATTORNEYS.
N. PETERS, PNOTO-LITKOGRAFHER WASHINGTON. D O,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W.- BROWN, OF \DAMARISCOTTA, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT lN BARREL-HOLDER AND SKID.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,916, dated October 9, 1877; application filed September 22, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. BROWN, of Damariscotta, in the county of Lincoln and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Barrel-Holder and Skid, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates tomeans which are designed for facilitating the moving of barrels into wagons and removing the sameth'er'efrom; and the nature of my invention consists in the combination of a skid and .anbarrel-holder when the same are connected together by means of a hinge or a pivot-joint, as will be understood from the following description.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of my invention arranged for use, and indicating, by dotted lines, a barrel on the holder, and the skid folded in an upright position. Figl 2 is a top view of the skid and the barrel h'older.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates a skid, which is made of two sections, a a, jointed or hinged at I), so that they can be folded together. This skid may be of any desired length or width,
and it is composed of cross-bars and longitudinal bars rigidly connected together, so as to form, when properly adjusted, an inclined plane up or down which barrels may be rolled. The upper section of the skid is hinged or pivoted inside of the curved side bars, forming the holder B. The holder is adapted to receive and retain in place a barrel which has been rolled up the inclined skid upon a wagon.
The skid and barrel-holder are so constructed that when a barrel is on the holder the skid can be folded and adjusted over against the barrel, as indicated by dotted lines, 1.
When a barrel is not on the holder B the skid can be doubled up and folded on top of it, so as to be out of the Way.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the folding skid A and the barrel-holder B, constructed and hinged together as described.
GEORGE WASHINGTON BROWN.
