LIP STICK HOLDER Filed Dec. 19, 1933 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 I flllorncy Patented May 15, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The present invention relates to lipstick holders of the type comprising a container and a slidable member therein supporting the lipstick and having means projecting through a longitudinal slot in the container whereby the sliding member may be adjusted longitudinally according to the length of the lipstick.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a holder of this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in 1 view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a holder embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough taken substantially on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an end elevation thereof with the cover removed.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a top plan view of the bottom cap.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken substantially on line 66 of Figure 1. v
Figure '7 is a section through the upper portion of the device showing the ring moved to open position.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes an elongated cylindrical container having a. longitudinally extending slot 6 beginning a distance from the bottom of the container and extending through the 40 upper edge thereof. The container 5 is provided with a plurality of spaced notches '7 in one edge of the slot 6. A cylindrical cup-like holder 8 is slidable in the container 5 and receives the lower end of a lipstick 9. A pin 10 projects from the holder 8 through the slot 6 and is receivable in any one of the notches '7. A bead 12 on the upper portion of the container forms an interior groove for receiving a split ring 14 which may be moved so that its opening registers with the slot 50 and allows the pin 10 to pass therethrough as indicated in Figure 7 when it is desired to remove or insert the holder 8. After the holder has been placed in the container then the ring is turned and this prevents accidental removal of the holder from the container. A bottom cap 16 is on the lower end of the container and has anchored thereto the bottom end of a spring 1'7 tensioned to push up on the bottom of the holder 8 tending to eject the same from the container. A removable cap 18 is mounted on ,the upper end of the container and it is preferable to have a chain 19 engaged therewith and also engaged I with the container so as to prevent the-loss of this readily removable cap.
With this device it will be seen that as the lipstick 9 is used up it may be raised in the container by adjusting the pin 10 from a lower notch to an upper notch. It will also be seen that the holder 8 may be readily removed when it is necessary to replace the lipstick and may be readily reinserted in the container.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a container having a longitudinal slot extending through an edge thereof and a plurality of spaced notches in one edge of the slot, 9. slidable member inserted in said container, spring means urging the slidable member outward from the container, a pin on the slidable member projecting through the slot and engageable in the notches, a split ring movable in a groove interiorly of the container and having its opening registrable with the slot to permit the passage of the pin by the ring, said ring being movable to prevent'the passage of said pin thereby.
2. A device of the class described comprising a container having a longitudinal slot extending through an edge thereof and a plurality of spaced notches in one edge of the slot, a slidable-member inserted in said container, spring means urging the slidable member outward from the container, a pin on the slidable member projecting through the slot and engageable in the notches, a split ring movable in a groove interiorly of the container and having its opening registrable with the slot to permit the passage of the pin by the ring, said ring being movable to prevent the passage of said pin thereby, a cap on the bottom end of the container, and a cap on the upper end thereof.
