This invention relates to infants wear of the type generally known as diapers.

Objects of this invention are to provide a diaper which cannot slip out of place, which is shaped to the childs body and will not bunch or otherwise annoy the child, which is sanitary, which is provided with a removable portion which may be frequently changed, which is provided with means to absorb liquid that might otherwise run down the childs legs, and to provide means whereby the childs stockings may be in effect supported from the waist portion.

An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 illustrates the device in its extended condition;

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the principal portion of the device, it will be seen, is composed of two similar main members 1 and 2, and two similar lower members 3 and 4, such latter members being provided with extensions forming attaching straps 5 and 6 respectively.

The members thus far described are joined by a central portion '7 which extends from one wedge 0f the device to the other and is prefer-v ably composed of front and rear portions as may be seen from Figures 1 and 3. The edges of the members 1 to 4 are positioned between the front and rear members forming the portion 7 and are secured in place. The outer edges of the entire device are bound by means of tape 8, to thus guard against ripping and to suitably finish the marginal edges. The ends of the straps 5. and 6 may have their corners folded inwardly to provide reinforced triangular terminal portion 9 which aid in inserting the straps through the slots which will hereinafter be described.

It is to be noted from reference to Figure 1 that the members 1 and 3 and 2 and 4 are not stitched together at their point of contact. A 'portion of each of the members is turned upon the respective member and stitched down so as to provide triangular reinforcing flaps l0 and 11. This reinforced portion of the structure therefore forms slots as indicated at 12 and 13 5,5 through which the straps 5 and 6 may be passed (Cl. 12S-284) when positioning the garment about the child.

To guard against excessive soiling, an auxiliary member 14 is provided, which is preferably pear shaped in outline. This member may be of fabric or may be of water-proof material if desired. It is adapted to be positioned upon the central portion- 7 of the garment before it is applied and to have the pointed extension 15 of the auxiliary member positioned between the childs legs with the main body portion of the u member positioned rearwardly of the child.

The auxiliary or removable member shown in Figures 5 and 6 comprises a transverse portion 25 and a longitudinal portion 26. A pair of slots 27 extend inwardly and partially separate the portion 26 from the portion 25. In applying this device it is folded along the lines 28 and 29 into the position shown in Figure 6 and laid upon the main member with the longitudinal portion in position to extend upwardly between the childs legs when the main member is positioned about the child.

After either auxiliary member has been placed upon the main garment, the child is laid upon the extended device, as shown in Figure 1. Thereafter the lower portions 3 and 4 are turned upwardly in front of the childs body, and the straps 5 and 6 are passed around the childs legs and through the slots 12 and 13. Thereafter the extensions 16 and 17 of the members 1 and 2 are wrapped about the childs waist portion and secured together and to the upturned portion of the underlapping central member 7, by means of a plurality of safety pins 18.

Safety pins 19 are then passed through the lower portion 20 and 21 of the members 1 and 2 through the terminal portions of the straps 5 and 6. These safety pins may also be passed thru the childs stockings whose upper portion is positioned around the leg portion of this device. 95

It is to be particularly noted that the device is accurately shaped to the childs body and will prevent awkward bunching of the material, which, as is well known, is the frequent cause of bowed legs or misshapen portions.

It is also to be noted that the lower portions of the resulting leg members of the device is composed of several thicknesses of absorbent material and, therefore, any liquid which might run down the childs legs is absorbed and prevented from passing outwardly from the garment.

It will further be seen that an extremely serviceable and sanitary garment has been provided which will be comfortable upon the child and which will be easy to manipulate. 1l0

It is understood that I do not restrict the out or shape of the diaper for infants only, as it may be used for other purposes. The diaper can be made Without the tape to answer the same purpose.
