Patented Apr. 10, 1934 BATHING OUTFIT v Edward Holahan, New York, N. Y. Application Jiine 14, 1933, Serial No. 675,857
3 Claims.
This invention relates to a bathing outfit, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the bathing suit may be put on under the dress of the wearer and removed after 5 the dress has been put on, so that the bather can make the changes without going into a bath house or the like.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination inafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. J
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and -in which:-
Figure 1 is a view of the bathing suit in open position.
Figure 2 is a view of the bathing suit in the position it willassume when placed on the body.
Figure 3 is a view of a modified form of the bathing suit.
Figure 4 is a side view of the bathing suit, with the parts in position ready to be connected together.
As shown more particularly in Figures 1, 2 and t, the bathing suit A comprises the front part 1 of the pants portion and the rear part 2 of said pants portion which are connected together by a strap-like part 3, the ends of which curve outwardly where they merge with the parts 1 and 2. Each part 1 and 2 has the projections 4 at each side thereof and the freerend of the'part 2 is formed with a strap-like extension 5 which has a pair of buttonholes 6 therein, one adjacent each end thereof. A breast or upper body covering portion Z is connected to the upper portion of the part 1 and has the side extensions 8 and 9 at its lower portion, the extension 8 having the button-holes 10 therein and the extension 9 having the two buttons 11 thereon. This part: 7 has its side edgeseach converging upwardly to the long pair of straps 12,- each of which has a buttonhole 13 at its free end.
The projections 4 of the part 2 which are adjacent the extension 5 have the parts 14 of snap fasteners attached thereto and the companion parts 15 of said fasteners are attached to the upper projections 4 of the part 1. The other projections 4 of the part 1 have the buttons 16 thereon and the other projections 4 of the part 2 have the buttonholes 17 therein. I
As shown in Figure 2, the part 3 is adapted to and arrangement of the several parts, to be here extend between the legs of the wearer with the part 1 at the front and the part 2 at the rear and the extensions 8 and 9 extend around the waist and are fastened together by placing the buttons 11 in the buttonholes 10. The extension 5 passes under the overlapping extensions 8 and 9 and thenfolds downwardly over said extensions with its buttonholes 6 receiving the buttons 11. The straps 12 pass over. the shoulders and the buttonholes 13 receive the buttons 11.
Figure 3 shows a skirt 18 formed with the suit, with a portion of each side of the front of the skirt passing under a portion of the adjacent side of the rear portion of the skirt, as shown at 19. Straps 20 are fastened to said side portion of the front of the skirt and pass through holes 21 in the overlapping portion of the rear of the skirt and are then fastened by buttons or snap fasteners 22 to a side portion of the front of the skirt. The rear part of the skirt is also fastened to the front portion, at each side thereof and adjacent the upper portion of the skirt portion, as shown at 23, by a button or snap fastener. As will be understood, the pants portion of the suit shown in Figure 3 is formed the same as shown in Figures 1 and 2, and the front portion of the skirt is sewn at its upper edge to the toppart of v the front portion of the pants and the upper edge of the rear portion of the skirt is sewn to the top portion of the rear part of the pants, but below the part 5 of said rear portion. The stitching which connects the skirt to the pants is shown at a. in Figure 3.
When the skirt is used with the bathing suit, said skirt is composed of front and rear portions sewn to parts of the bathing suit, at the upper ends of said skirt'portions, with the side parts of the two skirt portions fastened together by the straps 20 and the buttons or snap fasteners 23, as shown in Figure 3.
Before a dress is placed over the bathing suit, the shoulder straps, the straps 5 and the two side straps 8 and 9 are all disconnected and the two snap fasteners 23 of the skirt and the two straps 20 are disconnected, the only thing left unfastened being the two snap fasteners 14 and 15 at the hips. V v
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
