This invention relates to improvements in a base plate-for dentures and it consists in the novel features which are hereinafter more fully described.

: One of the objects of my invention is to strengthen the base plate of a denture without doubling the thickness of the same and without using any reinforcements soldered thereto, thereby saving labor and material.

Another object of my invention is to provide a perfected base plate for dentures having thereon corrugations disposed with the convex side thereof on the lingual side of the base plate in a way to form a finishing line or joint with the rubber or other material of the denture.

A further object of my invention is to increase the suction on the palate side or gum side of the base plate.

A still other object of my invention is to main- "tain a uniform color in the metal of the base plate.

A further object of my invention is to have said base plate simple, durable and comparatively inexpensive.

I attain these objects by the base plate for dentures, one form of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, or by any mechanical equivalent or obvious modification of the same.

In the drawing Fig. 1 is a plan View of one J-form of my improved base plate for dentures positioned with the lingual side thereof extending upwardly and with the palate side thereof extending downwardly.

Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1 -looking in the direction of the arrows.

Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.

Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views.

11 designates the ridge or gum part of my improved base plate for dentures, which is formed of a single thickness of metal or other material, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and it has formed thereon along the outer and rear edges thereof 15 a corrugation 13-13a, which is disposed with the convex side 13 thereof on the labial and buccal sides of the base plate and with the concave side 13a thereof on the gum side of the base plate.

A similar corrugation 14 is formed at the junc- 5() tion of the inner edge of the gum part 11 with the palate part 12 of the base plate and is disposed with the convex side thereof on the lingual side of the base plate and with the concave side thereof on the palate side of the base plate.

The two legs of the corrugation 14, which is shown as U-shaped in Fig. l, are-joinedby transverse corrugations 15 and 15a whichare formed, in the palate part of the base plate.

The said corrugation 15a extends along the rear edge of the base plate as shown in Fig. 1. 6a

The ends of the corrugation 15a are also shown as joining the said corrugation 13 at the rear ends thereof.

The corrugations 15 and 15a are also shown as disposed with the convex side thereof on the lingual side of the base plate and with the concave side thereof on the palate side of the base plate.

In the embodiment of my invention as shown in the drawings an upper denture is illustrated; but my invention is also applicable to lower dentures, wherein the corrugations 15 and 15a may be omitted.

Other specially positioned corrugations may be employed in special cases to meet extra strains; and in all cases the position of the corrugations may be somewhat different than as shown in the drawing, if desired.

A rear margin 16, and a front and lateral margin 17 are shown as provided on my base plate for dentures.

The above described corrugation 14 may be employed to form a finishing line or joint with the rubber or other material of the denture.

The stiffening of the base plate by means of the

above corrugations

13, 14, 15 and 15a enables one to dispense with an additional plate, or wire reinforcements soldered thereto, thereby saving metal and labor; and by the elimination of soldering wires on to the plate a uniformity of color in the base plate may be maintained.

The concave side of the corrugations also increases the suction on the denture, thereby improving the latter.

Many changes may be made in the details of 95, my improved base plate for dentures without departing from the main scope of my invention and parts of my invention may be used without other parts; I do not, therefore, restrict myself to the details as shown in the drawing; but I intend to include also all mechanical equivalents and obvious modifications of the same within the scope of my invention.

I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A base plate for dentures formed of a plate of substantially uniform thickness, said base plate having thereon one or more corrugations, which are disposed substantially normally to the surface of the base plate and having their convex sides located on the lingual and labial side of the base plate and their concave sides on the palate and gum engaging side of the base plate, and said convex sides being disposed to form a finishing line or joint with the material or" the denture.

2. The elements of claim 1, said base plate having thereon a ridge or gum engaging part and one of said corrugations extending along the outer or labial and buccal edge of said ridge.

3. The elements of claim 1, said base plate having thereon a ridge or gum engaging part and one of said corrugations extending along the inner or lingual edge of said ridge.

4. A base plate for dentures of substantially uniform thickness having thereon one or more corrugations which are disposed with their convex sides on the lingual and labial side of the base plate and with their concave sides on the gum engaging side of the base plate, said convex sides being disposed to form a finishing line or joint with the material of the denture, and one of said corrugations extending along the rear edge of the base plate.

5. A base plate for dentures of substantially uniform thickness having thereon one or more corrugations which are disposed with their convex sides on the lingual and labial side of the base plate and with their concave sides on the gum engaging side of said base plate, said convex sides being disposed to form a finishing line or joint with the material of the denture, said base plate having thereon a' ridge or gum engaging part and a palate part, one of said corrugations being substantially U-shaped and extending along the junction of said ridge and palate part, and transverse corrugations on said palate part joining at their ends the legs of said U shaped corrugation.

6. The elements of claim 1, said base plate having thereon a palate part, and one or more of said corrugations being positioned on said palate part. LAKE H. SPRINKLE.
